Three things that I really hope we get in the next coach

  1. Be as good a leader as Fox was. You might not like his approach, you might not want another conservative guy in here, but his guys played hard for him to the bitter end. Neither of our other coaches can say that.
  2. Hire and keep good people. That's one of the biggest aspects of being a head coach, and one of the least-discussed. Want to know why Smith is doing great in Atlanta? His staff is great, that's why. Remember why Payton finally won? He hired Williams. We need someone who can go out and get the best coordinators out there, and make them happy.
  3. Go for the jugular, on defense AND on offense. There were times under Fox when it really seemed like our defense wanted to just put the hurt on the other guys. This is why everyone loves Cowher too--his defenses played like that. I want someone who's fearless like that, and fearless on offense too. We've gone low-risk for long enough, and while there have been rewards they haven't been high enough. It's time to let the pendulum swing in the other direction.

You cant argue with the fact that Fox's guys love him and will play to the end for him but I wonder about his ability to "rally the troops". With a few notable exceptions it seems like once a game starts going south Fox was never able to get things going in the other way.

Not trying to turn this into a Fox bash thread, Id just like the next guy to be a better leader than fox was/is.

I think that kind of rests on the coordinators, which is what I think Fox's biggest flaw was. Fox can rally the troops, and he can get his coaches pumped up, but if his coordinators don't have effective "plan B" plans in the first place, then there's not a lot that can be done.

    • Been here since middle school right when it started around 2003 after the charlotte.com one. Living outside of Carolina it was tough to find good Panthers content, news or analysis. And no one to talk to about it. This place gave me a lot though I don’t often post. In the later days, I particularly Loved PhillyB’s write ups. They were fire. Too bad I go let it go. I appreciate the hell out of @MHS831 @TheSpecialJuan @Jackie Lee and others who have been posting great content and keeping this place worth coming back to. Particularly during the offseason. Appreciate y’all!
    • Nice explanation, but I was just messing with you. Thought that would be obvious. I dont have the energy to keep on trolling. Last season I compared our situation with Bryce as a potential Alex Smith, but what we should be looking for is our version of Mahomes. Some people will read that as one sentence, to me that single sentence is equivalent to a half A4 explanationf of the teams pathway forward.
    • I dont know how much of his salary would come across and how much a trade would cost but I feel Kmet would be the sort of TE Canales and Morgan would like
