Choosing Carolina over San Fran?

Little known fact about Harbaugh when it comes to san fran vs carolina.

In 2001 the final season of his career Harbaugh was offered a spot on the bench at 3 teams, San Fransisco, Miami, and Carolina. Harbaugh said the choice was easy since he and his wife loved the Carolinas and particularly Charlotte. Seifert also said he would be given the oppurtunity to be the next QB'S coach, which thrilled Harbaugh, who was let down once Seifert was fired

HAHAHAHAHAHA, the faint of heart are gonna neg rep me lol

Stanford is close to San Francisco. I'd guess about an hour and a half away. So he could still be in the same general area. His family could technically even stay where they are. Does he have kids?

As for city comparisons, there is none. SF blows Charlotte away in every aspect. I was there this summer and it's beautiful. The weather is great, the city looks amazing, and there is a lot more to do.

As for the teams, that's about even. Fans from each side can make an argument for their team having better promise. As for the organizations, SF was once king and can get back there again media wise. We've never been anything but are due respect. I don't think the division matters at all to a coach. So unless JR pays the man a lot more, I don't see ANY reason he would pick Carolina over SF.

Kids: Harbaugh has five children: Jay, (an undergraduate at Oregon State University and a student intern for the Oregon State Beavers football team); another son, James, and three young daughters, Grace, Addison and Katherine. His brother John is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens and his brother-in-law, Tom Crean, is head coach of the Indiana University men's basketball team.

Only reason I can see is he would have a lot more money to play with (in the club and personally) and the fact that he could shape the team however he wants. Having to play Ryan, Brees, and Freeman is definitely a neg though.

Possibly a positive if he likes a challenge. Get the division title and he'll be labeled as an elite HC. Win the NFC West and he'll just be a HC with the least shittiest team.

I caught the very end of the Hurney interview on 1110 after the game yesterday, so I didn't hear exactly what was said about QB. However, after the interview Mick Mixon and Ethan Horton commented that, based on Hurney's comments, he is not happy with the QB situation as is. Maybe someone else on here heard the entire interview/discussion and can elaborate.

I grew up in Charlotte and lived there most my life. Left there and moved to CA. Live in San Jose now. Bay area is awesome place to live. Weather here is incredible. No comparison.

Standford is is Palo Alto which is about 30mins from San Fran - literally down to the road. It's a beautiful place...

It's funny - bay area residents think Harbaugh/Luck are their own home grown product and should stay here. They scoff at Carolina as lesser place...

Reality is I believe Luck's family is on east coast and Harbaugh did play for Panthers in 2001 and loved it here. That should be good for us since Luck will surely seek Harbaugh's advice. Also fact that Harbaugh will most likely go somewhere else should motivate Luck to enter draft.

Either way this will be a nail biting couple weeks!

    • Nfl leaders don't look at the population of just the city itself.  Charlotte has three of the top fifty combined statistical areas within a 1 to 1.5 hour drive.  Charlotte, Greensboro/WS/High Point, and Greenville Spartanburg.  Those three statistical areas include nearly 7 million people.  Other than Raleigh, the only one in the top fifty within an hour and half of raleigh is Greensboro.  So only about 4-5 million people.  Charlotte has many more people to draw from.   Also, many of the surrounding communities for Raleigh are not native born.  If memory serves, many still refer to Cary as Containment area for relocated Yankees.  One of the reasons the Canes do so well is a significant portion of the population are people who moved from Northern Areas.  Would that population translate into support for a NFL team?  Hard to say, but I see a tremendous amount of Giants/Jets jerseys in the triangle when I forced to endure the crazy traffic on 40/85.
    • This will also be prime Training Camp meltdown time on here lol. Preseason game 1 August 8th, i'm guessing camp starts around July 25-27th
