Could Andrew Luck simply be playing hard to get?

It seems he really plans on waiting down to the wire to make up his mind about going pro or not. What if this is just his agent's doing? Hear me out. Everyone knows the Panthers have the number 1 draft pick. But everyone also knows the Panthers wouldn't surprise too many people if they DON'T draft Luck.

And let's talk about Clausen. His stock fell way short last year and got drafted much lower than he was hoping. What if this is simply a way for Luck and his agent to make sure Luck WILL BE the number 1 pick and not someone else. To make sure between now and April, his stock won't fall. To make the Panthers want him bad and to make him appear constantly in the news.

Yes I have read the stories about how the Panthers are not the ideal situation for a QB like Luck, to which I ask...what 32nd place team is? None of them ever are. Whether Luck likes it or not, he's going to end up on a sorry ass team in a crappy situation this year or next year because that's how the NFL works.

To those saying he doesn't care about the money cause his family is well off I say bolony! If anything, most people with money love even more money. And to risk a 50 million guarantee paycheck and a likely starting position versus a potential 3 million paycheck next year, if his stock falls and ends up in the 2nd round, if he gets hurt in college, or if the the new CBA falls in place and puts heavy restrictions on rookie salaries is absolutely CRAZY! I don't buy it and I expect him to declare.

But that still doesn't mean the Panthers will necessarily pick him. I don't know why but I can see this happening. And I don't know why, but I wouldn't mind us going for an elite WR either with Smith climbing down the other side of the hill.

I honestly believe the Panthers are in a toughest position. Luck is certainly a prospect we don't want to miss out on, but is another top rookie QB prospect really what this team needs? I think we have a lot of other problems that need to be addressed and with us wasting so many picks last year on QBs, giving away our 2nd round pick for this year, and taking yet another QB this year will leave us incredibly vulnerable and broken as a team in many other positions, particularly WR and O-line.

If we draft Luck, I expect some serious off-season trading to take place to fill the gaps. And all this points to spending a lot of money something Richardson is clearly against at the moment.

to make 63 million guaranteed(no CBA by draft day means no rookie cap) or to make 10-20 million..that is the question...you can say money is not a factor but how many times do you see players in the NFL these days hold out for more money? They only get 10-17 years(max..average player plays for 3 years) at this and only 1 to 2 big paychecks(if they are good) so if he waits he has so much more to lose then he has to gain.

If I'm in Luck's shoes, I declare for two reasons:

1) who knows if this is his only chance to make 50 million guaranteed, it's much more likely a rookie cap is instituted in 2012. Next year he could throw for 80 tds and negative picks and he still might never get that kind of money he could get now.

2) you can always go back to school. at 45, 55, whenever

With Lafell and Gettis improving this season, Armanti hopefully seeing the field next season, and Smith if he stays, how are we broken at WR?

Neither Lafell nor Gettis have proven that they can play on the level Smith has for us, and come on, you mean to tell me Smith's best years are NOT behind him?

And besides, you can argue the WR, but you can't ignore the O line problem. What good will Luck be if he's going to be facing the same problems Clausen and Moore faced all year. There is no QB not named Michael Vick that can perform without a solid O-line.

Don't get me wrong. I still think we draft him once he declares, but I just don't think that's going to fix our team, our biggest problems, and I also would not be as upset as others if we don't draft him. I can actually understand there are other things we need to consider with out top pick this year.

Last paragraph is asinine, did you pay attn to anything that he said today?

No, I think Luck is wisely evaluating his options before making a life altering decision.

If you are talking about Richardson, as I understood it, he said he will not be trading away his first round pick. But that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to take Luck. It is how everyone interprets it, but this man has been nothing, but predictable.

It would have been nice to be able to get Luck last year, not this year or if Clausen could have ended up to be "the man" and we wouldn't even need to consider Luck. This year, Luck will kind of force our arm to take him if he declares, but I guarantee you no one planned on us drafting QB's like this two years in a row.

That's POOR drafting. This will effectively mean we wasted 3 draft picks last year, and gave away a 2nd round pick this year for NOTHING. That's failure on the highest level.
