Do we know for sure?

That these coaching candidates being thrown around are all being interviewed strictly for the HC position or is that more of an accepted assumption?

I mean, I know you typically want your HC in place before hiring any assistants, but depending on how much power Hurney has, isn't it possible some of these interviews may be taking place to look at some assistant positions, as well as making sure we comply with the Rooney rule?

So far I'm just not really that excited if this really is the majority of our candidate pool for our next HC. I really expected some better competition in there.

I mean, Fewell, Manusky, Rivera, Ryan....no disrespect to them, but is this really what we have to pick from? I really hope this is all just smoke and mirrors and the real candidates will surface over the next couple of weeks.

I really don't think we would hire an coordinator without hiring the coach first. Its too much potential for error if we get a coordinator who doesn't match our ideal coaching candidates scheme. It's putting the cart before the horse.

I'm not saying we hire them, but couldn't we be screening them ahead of time? I mean just with Fewell and Rivera being among the first 2, and knowing how JR likes to stick to the rules, I can see this being a smoke and mirror attempt in order to make it look like we're complying.

One can hope anyway.

JR pretty much said this is the type of coach we will hire, so I bet one of these guys will get the job.

I doubt any of them would come on as an assistant as it would be a lateral move at best

There is no smoke and mirrors. It is what it is.

Jerry believes you hire a defensive coach....and he believes that it has now been proven you do better w/ coordinators than recycled former HCs .

Ryan or Manusky could, barring them being retained by the new staffs in CLE and SF. But with Fewell and Rivera, since they're under contract - SD and NYG likely would've refused you guys asking to interview about a coordinator position.

But it worked so well for Dallas.

Again guys, I'm not talking about hiring. The hiring will most likely go in the expected order, but that doesn't necessarily mean the interviews have to? Right? RIGHT?

*SOBS* (I wanted us to at least interview Gruden)

I'm sorry.....I just can't get excited AT ALL about these guys in a serious way. I always believed the next guy would just kind of "fit". Like we could all go...."YEAH! That's our guy!"

So far it seems like everyone is just kind of talking themselves into finding something they like about them. What a freaking mess.

    • Maybe a bit of a homer take but I can't give us a grade lower than A.   Freeling was arguably the best LT prospect in the draft.  His athletic ability is off the chart and at 6'7" that can move.  It was a no brainer pick.   Hunter's key word is Violence. Putting him next to Brown should scare an offensive coordinator. These two give Scourton and Phillips plenty of chances to get one on one opportunities. Brazzell, another tall receiver with sprinter speed.  Our WR room is filled with tall talented WR.  Brazzell is going to give us a WR that can take to roof off the defense.  Basically Jimmy Horn with size. W. Lee III has a nickname of the Blanket. (heard this on the Beleav podcast with J. Stewart)  What a great name.  A great value in the 5th round. Hecht A strong, fast and extremely smart center. Many had him listed as the best center in the draft.  He's most likely a starter sooner than later. Wheatley A good safety in round 5.  Someone who could see playing time.   Kuwatch  I love this pick.  At minimum he will be a key piece on special teams and with some good coaching he'll see some packages where he'll play.  His down piece is he doesn't stay up in the running game.  Good coaching will fix this.  He reminds me a bit of A.J. Klein.   All these picks were great value.  I believe everyone of them were graded higher than the pick we took them.   Dan Morgan is IMO doing a great job turning this team into a good team with great depth.
    • Moton is a class act.
    • Sure, that is possible. That’s what, an extra 55 yards a game on average and 7 more TDs? What if he’s just 15th?  I imagine they would extend him in that situation due to the belief that he’ll keep trending up. maybe a 3 year contract to prove he can be top 10? Sounds like a Tepper plan.
