Ron Rivera now reportedly the leading candidate for the HC job

he doesn't just get to go outside and shout it to make it happen. Teams have to allow those coaches to leave. Hint: they won't.

If Rivera asks them they will...

It's not the same as just a regular coaching search. The Panthers have vacancies at EVERY position so you better believe that at least one of these guys will leave their former team and work for the Panthers because there is hardly enough unemployed coaches to even form a whole staff.

rules still apply.

Unless a coach already under contract is being interviewed for a head coaching job, or a personnel exec is being interviewed for a promotion to general manager that would involve final say on personnel, their existing team can block any meeting. Many out there think that only a lateral move can be blocked. That is not true on the coaching or personnel side.

Hm.

Wonder what kind of 4-3 he'll actually run, if he does indeed run a 4-3?

Will it be a very aggressive, blitz happy Jim Johnson style? Or would it be a Tampa-2 style that we've seen for the past couple of seasons?

He ran a 4-3 in 2006 for the Bears during their Super Bowl year. They were pretty dominant from what I recall.

It will be a 4-3 attacking style Defense like Jim Johnson that is were Rivera got his start as a LB coach under Jim Johnson with the eagles!

i don't think Meeks and Rivera have compatible styles at all. i would hope Ron would bring in someone who will just help run his system for him at DC. like Rex Ryan brought the LB coach from Baltimore to run his system in NY with his supervision.

He was the Bears D coordinator in 05/06 I think they were mainly tampa 2.

It's kind of hard to say exactly what our base D is at least in my eyes because I don't re-watch the games as much when we suck so bad. Usually looked like Cover 2.

Cover 2 or Tampa 2 we need some freaking tackles. The interior line needs a bomb thrown threw it.

nahhhhhh, at least from what his 4-3's were like I think while he blitzed plenty it wasn't at a Jim Johnson level he likes the D-line for that just like Fox/Meeks.

Dude. You posted a staff that had people who would be making lateral moves or demotions. THIS IS NO LONGER ALLOWED IN THE NFL, no matter how bad Rivera might want them to come here. Your staff is 100% unrealistic.

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
