Rob Chudzinski is the Panthers lead target for OC

San Diego tight ends/assistant head coach Rob Chudzinski is the leading candidate to become the Carolina Panthers next offensive coordinator, according to a source close to the situation.

If they hire Chudzinski you can bet the Panthers will be looking to upgrade at tight end with an Antonio Gates-type of player. His background is working with great tight ends like Gates at San Diego and Jeremy Shockey and Bubba Franks at the University of Miami.

Chudzinski’s contract with the Chargers is up after the completion of the NFL season.

Indianapolis Colts wide receivers coach Ron Turner could be a fallback option for the Panthers, but Chudzinski clearly is the leading candidate at this point.

One thing I LOVED about Rivera's press conference, and noone has said anything about it yet, but was how Rivera addressed the TE situation.

He said we need to find a guy who can be the man, whether he's on the team or elsewhere, that we would be moving away from a TE-By-Committee.

You must not have read the press conference thread. There was quite a bit of discussion about it.

Great post. My thoughts exactly.

    • The Athletic posted their goalie rankings for the season... The description of the tiers are as follows... Where would you rank Freddie and Pyotr? And don't cheat and look up the article. I'll post their ranks and the link in a bit.
    • Refs will be in their pocket. Always have to account for that. They are 20th in rush defense. They currently have the worst pass defense in the league. I mean I want to say even Bryce could at least put up 250 or more passing yards given that but man he looked BAD when the pocket collapsed against Miami and they had the 20th pass defense. Just can't expect to consistently get clean pockets like that in this league even with the better OL's. I'd say with this being a home game hopefully our guys will be motivated regardless. We certainly seem to play much better at home. We'll see.
    • They'd never do it, because it really would be insane to do, but if I'm the Commanders, I'd seriously consider trading Daniels after this season, especially as he'd get a HUGE return for him. He's RG3 part 2, with his body type and style of game, I just can't see how he holds up long term, he's going to end up having a seriously injury prone career. It would take some massive balls (or pure insanity) to pull the trigger on trading him, but I do think 5 years from now it would be looked back upon as a smart trade.
