Clausen getting back to work

This is why I have refused to commit either way. There just isn't enough on him in a normal situation to make a call either way. I've seen both the good and bad and just want to see if he can realise his potential.

If he does snap out his funk, then this place might just become deserted...

I think you missed the point. Whilst the team might not be getting him working, he has clearly indicated he is off to Charlotte to get to work. This could quite easily be him working out near team facilities with a personal trainer, or him meeting up with the coaching staff throughout the off-season to slowly build thing up.

Regardless of who is responsible for him getting back to work, he is still doing it.

I think he realized his potential a few years ago. We have seen what he has to offer and it is limited.

It just amazes me how everybody has turned on Clausen after a rookie season where he was also throwing to two rookie WR's. Granted, I wasn't impressed with him either, but I did see some flashes from time to time and there is no reason to completely give up on any QB based on their rookie season.

If Chud can provide him with a little bit more QB friendly offense, I think he has a chance to be pretty good over time.

I never saw a flash of anything. He showed NO leadership qualities at all and his arm is weaker than a 2 year old girls and he has terrible mechanics as a whole. some things can be fixed, but you cannot implant the qualities it takes to be a leader. The guy is all ego and very little talent to back it up. I haven't turned on him, I never liked him as QB at ND and he has done nothing to convince me I was wrong. I just hope that the staff wastes little time believing he is starting QB material.

probably b/c he had a great backfield and had a dangerous pro bowl WR on the field.

funny you stress the fact Carolina had a rookie WR on the field most downs as some huge handicap unique to Clausen. Clausen had plenty of talent around him not to look as bad as he did.

There's no bias here. You hate Clausen--appently always have and hope he fails at the expense of what I assume to be your favorite NFL team. That's classy!

He had flashes and overthrew WRs on a few deep routes regarding the "weak arm". Lastly, unless you are Smitty, Gross or any other offensive player for the Panthers, you have no idea what leadership skills he may or may not have.

You must have missed the throw where he wound up and put all of his might into it and underthrow LaFell by 5 yards on the post pattern. It was so bad that neither LaFell or the DB he had beat by 2 yards could make a play on the ball.

You don't have to be in the Huddle to determine leadership. You can see it by the way the other players react to him on the field and sidelines.

Interpret it however you want, but the fact is that Clausen is under no obligation to come back to Charlotte and do anything at this point... so I think you have to give him some credit.

It's obvious there are folks on here with an anti-Clausen agenda and they will never give him credit for anything.

And it is obvious that people who are hanging on his nutsack want to give him credit and clap everytime he tweets that he is taking a crap.

He is getting credit on the order of half a million dollars. And he strolled into town for a meeting with his future boss. Big deal!!

He had an underthrown ball! Wierd, that never happens. I was just stating the fact that he had overthrow balls on go routes and posts too. Nobody other than Beason seemed to be a very demostrative leader last season. Even Smitty seemed disconnected from the early stages.

You hate the kid; that's fine. Will you dis-own the Panthers this season (assuming there is one) if Clausen is named the starter? It sounds like you just might. Your contempt for Clausen seems that intense.

I was just pointing out a counterexample to your example of great arm strength. I've defended Clausen plenty of times when it warrants it, like in this thread when someone said they hoped he'd work on losing every game and when someone said he got in a bar fight.

If Clausen is named the starter with no competition brought in then I think every fan should question the front office and coaching staff and their commitment to winning. If he beats out everyone that is brought in to legitimately compete with him and earns the job then that's fine. It will show that he has improved from last year and deserves the job.

My contempt for Clausen mostly surrounds his undeserved hype throughout his life. My critique of his play has been spot on. I've said 1,000 times that it's not impossible for him to be a good QB, just that with his physical gifts he has a longer, steeper road to climb than most.

Tell me, do you know for a fact that those rookie WR's never made Clausen look bad by cutting their route short or running the wrong route altogether? It's hard enough for an NFL rookie QB even if he has 3-4 experienced WR's, much less a couple that don't know anything yet. And our great running game didn't do squat until very late in the season, so he didn't get nearly as much help as your claiming.

I'm not saying the kid will be a star or anything, but for people to claim that they know for a fact that he has no chance whatsoever is pretty damn short sighted.
