fwiw...

also, worth noting that he retired after the '05 season but then was brought back to work with that redskins as an oline coach in '06 and was considered a player-coach when he was a player and was used to mentor the guys.

couple decent reads on him...

his focus in san fran was going to be working with the OTs and TEs.

seems like a good hire and at 48 years old a good counter to the 60 year old matsko.

that first link is a great story. i remember thinking about him as an old player who should retire when i was watching football as a teenager. yet he kept hanging on. his position changes probably bode well for his approach to technique and flexibility. good hire, ideal role for a guy like this.

kind of a crowded situation in san fran. had 3 Oline coaches and he was going to be the one with the smallest job. was more of a luxury for them.

As I recall, he had played for them, and played well. He was well-liked there as a player and a coach, from what I understood.

It'd be kind of like us having Ricky Proehl, then a new coach ditching him.

    • I don't think working from memory is going to be very productive or useful. You would need to compare them all, which is far easier to do from the breakdowns of each game. That has tiered charts that give real data.  But, even then that wouldn't substitute for a trained eye(s) doing detailed film analysis to attempt to determine if we are modifying the offense dramatically for Bryce.
    • I think front office and general team culture under new ownership is sort of on the right track. The rookies all look incredible compared to where you'd expect each one of them to be right now. Lee's in game coaching is awful, he might be ok as a culture and developmental guy but that can't outweigh the in-game miscues and bad game plans. If LaMelo can't figure out the ankles then I think you gotta trade him for a haul, can't keep having your seasons lost every year because he can't stay on the court. And I say that as a big fan of him. Miller I think is unlucky, he looks likely to be an elite core player for us, but if he can't put together a stretch of healthy seasons he would trend towards LaMelo and need to be moved. I used to like Miles on the court a lot more but nowadays he's just an empty stat guy who needs to go. The short lived hot start to the season was fun but unless LaMelo and Miller both get and stay healthy within the next few weeks I can't even see us being a play-in team this year. And even if they do get healthy, we're probably looking at play-in at best, maybe barely compete for that fringe 6th seed.
