First off, I didn't start the "racist" discussion. I don't understand why you are accusing me of doing so. I simply added some commentary to Jangler's satire.

Now... if you want to pretend that this "ONE" example is just an aberration, and that people who visit this board can't possibly be racist, you go right ahead and live in that fantasy land.

Honestly ONE example is one too many imho.

Generally speaking, I have no idea whether people on here are racist, sexist, alcoholic, pedophiles, wife-beaters, serial killers or anything else.

Unless they say something that can actually be taken to show they're one of those things, I prefer to leave the assumptions behind.

You might be wise to do the same.

You're going into this with the assumption that a whole bunch of white people whose real lives you know absolutely nothing about have a secret hate of black people.

So tell me again, who's guilty of thinking like a racist?

I'm going to assume you don't have full access, because if you did, you'd have seen this quote:

He did miss an open receiver for a touchdown, but the rest of the game, the one-time The Golden Calf of Bristol backup displayed very good accuracy to go along with an extremely strong arm. Not only did he complete a high percentage of his passes (10-of-14 for 140 yards), he also put the football right on the money, for the most part. When looking at him as a future pro prospect, there is an awful lot to like. You have a young man with great size and overall athletic ability. While he's still in need of a lot more polish as a passer, he shows great promise from a fundamentals standpoint

Now how exactly is that dogging him at all? Seems to me to be pretty positive, talking about how he was underrated.

...In October.

how the hell... so what exactly does that make the comparisons between Gabbert and Russell or just about any big armed QB and Russell that is white??

it's not racism, it's fans drawing parallels between what they see from Newton now, what people like about him, and what THEY think was Russell's major selling points.

You guys are playing dumb now.

When the first thing someone does is to compare Newton to Russell, they are taking the worst example of a Black QB not transitioning to the NFL and drawing a fear against Newton, just simply because they are the same race. People have done it with Michael Vick and Newton too.

How many comparisons have you seen between Warren Moon and Newton? I can't think of any. How about McNabb? Maybe one here and there. But Russell and Vick comparisons to Newton are all over the place. Why? Because of fear of his failure.

Now... you can choose to believe this or not... but there IS a stigma against black QBs in Football. Everyone knows there is. I'm not sure how it got started, or to what depth it runs... but it is out there. I'm not making this poo up.

You can pretend this isn't influencing people's judgment negatively towards Newton. I choose to be a little more honest. Lets call it like it is?

People read that one line, and the rest of the article is meaningless.

so explain to me the comparisons between Russell and Gabbert, or Russell and Mallett. Why do they hold more weight than the comparisons between Newton and Russell?

Why can't they all be stupid comparisons? Why does one of the three need to be racist?

BTW, I've seen just about as many comparisons of Newton to Big Ben and McNabb than to Russell...

So where does that lead? Should writers and analysts be extra sensitive and sanitize their articles so that some phantom anti-Cam sentiment won't slip out? Or should people quit being mindless sheep, develop some critical thinking skills, and stop reading in such a way that strokes their confirmation bias?

OK, I was gonna leave it alone but let me ask everybody one simple question... does anybody here believe Auburn would have been anywhere near a NC if Cam Newton wasn't there?

I watched Auburn struggle mightily against Northeastern in their 09 bowl, so it's not like this was a great team already. Cam made them great, and that says more than any stat or scouting report, IMO.

uh what

1) it's from october

2) he needs more polish as a passer

3) it mentions his great accuracy etc. I'd say that saying "he needs more polish as a passer" Is pretty accurate.

4) you'd be hard pressed to find an article this year about any QB other than Luck that is 100% positive from most draftniks. they all have positives and negatives.

hmm no idea, but they probably wouldn't have been to the NC. At the same time, I don't think what made that offense so potent is going to easily translate to the NFL. I hope he can become a great in the NFL, too, don't get me wrong, I just think that the kind of offense he played didn't make it easy to try to see what his potential as a pocket passer is.

Ok Mr. Scot. Since you are obviously pissed off about something I said... I'm going to make this as clear as I can...

I didn't bring up race until someone responded to one of my threads with a racist remark. Since then, the gloves came off, because that sort of intolerance is exactly what we don't need around here.

And for the record, being a white man, I'm not ASSUMING there are white people who are secretly racist. I've been in situations around white men who, behind closed doors, DO harbor racist thoughts and share them with other white men. It's disgusting, but it does happen.

    • gosh no one cares about the OGs...   Id list hunt here too, if not for missing 95% of the season.   Best I can say, Tri Turner was the best OG in panthers history if you factor in career length. Wharton was super solid, but never elite. Norwell while having a 1st all-pro, only played 2.5 starting years.    If lewis stays on the panthers and keeps his play lvl at 2025, his path is right there and easy. In 2028 he could be the best OG in panthers history.    Dang if panthers or NFL don't have long great careers.....its sooo rare.
    • All true, Stafford and Mccvay were both talking about "retiring" during those future picks too, I member. In my computer when you make future trade, I feel you have to factor in the worst case or close to it from your side. The big issue for the panthers, maybe even now is that they have not proven they can draft well enough to trade. I know that Dan and company have not traded future picks and they seem to always want 7-8 picks overall. They like to trade 3 picks for 3 picks or 2 for 2.   It would have been great to flip BB for that haul and use those Rams picks instead of the first overall pick...... Verse wise, Jesus what a beast....... Garrett is the top dawg and all, but man this is rough for me. I also noticed this about the panthers they are pedo bears, they like dem young. So a 25 year old verse would have gotten gigged with the panthers. Even with NIL and 6th year, and even coofus fallback, panthers prefer younger players. Monroe Freeling (Round 1, Pick 19 | OT, Georgia): 21 years old Lee Hunter (Round 2, Pick 49 | DT, Texas Tech): 22 years old (estimated) Chris Brazzell II (Round 3, Pick 83 | WR, Tennessee): 22 years old Will Lee III (Round 4, Pick 129 | CB, Texas A&M): 21-22 years old (estimated) Sam Hecht (Round 5, Pick 144 | C, Kansas State): 21-22 years old (estimated) Zakee Wheatley (Round 5, Pick 151 | S, Penn State): 22 years old (estimated) Jackson Kuwatch (Round 7, Pick 227 | LB, Miami OH): 22-23 years old   Tetairoa McMillan, WR (Arizona) — Age: 22 Nic Scourton, EDGE (Texas A&M) — Age: 20 Princely Umanmielen, EDGE (Ole Miss) — Age: 21 Trevor Etienne, RB (Georgia) — Age: 20 Lathan Ransom, SAF (Ohio State) — Age: 23 Cam Jackson, DT (FL)- age 22 Mitchell Evans, TE (ND)- age 22 Horn-22   Fitterererere just turned out to be a awful hire, too green, too willing to please, no sense of what talent looks like on teams other than Seahawks, too much pressure, didnt have the correct network of coaches and FO office people. Kick was herniay leftd him with a bare bones talent to start with and besides taking a bottom level team and improving it, he made it even worse AND trading prime draft picks to prolong the timeline to fix. People forget Dan didn't have the 1st overall pick and 39th overall(that dude looking good for bears) to repair this team. Dan could have traded that 1st overall for a proven 1k WR, 9th overall, future 1st and future 2nd......
    • When I read the OP I was thinking more of the Franchise than the league but I agree.  To me DB is the only guy right now but I could see TMac being on the list.
