Does anyone think we Riveria may transition to a 3-4 def

Green May went to a 3-4 because that is what Caper's knows and has always run. Rivera has more choices because he can either. For now we will run a 4-3. Who knows what happens in a few years.

If you look at the top 10 defenses you find that there are as many 4-3 defenses as there are 3-4 defenses. What makes Pittsburgh and Green Bay good is that they give up less points than they score on a weekly basis. Frankly if we can score more than 12 points a game, it won't matter what defense we use.

No he has already stated that we will be an agressive 4-3 d that will probably implement alittle 3-4 in certain situations. hiring McDermott, who has studied exclusively under Jim Johnson's 4-3, would seem out of place if we go to a 3-4. but it's nice to know that we have a coach who not only has used both systems but used them to great effect in his career. Can't wait to see wht the D can do if we can find a DT, whether it is Fairley or some other DT in the Draft or FA, and get TD back healthy.

Don't read too much into Rivera running a 3-4 in San Diego. They had already been established in that system.

All of Rivera's major influences - Jim Johnson, Buddy Ryan Dave McGinnis, Mike Ditka - were 4-3 guys. Yes, he'll take elements of it and use it when he thinks it's effective, but we're not going to change our base attack.

I look for us to look at some good DT in the draft who Rivera make like.I know Dareus isnt a number 1 pick. But he is a great football player and he is very tough and physical.I believe the panthers will look long and hard Between Fairley and Dareus.I really see us going defense. If we go offense the guy they will get is AJ Green.

this made the thread worth reading.

Thats True..We still need a QB but next year Gives Clausen one more chance. If he mess up then its over for him.Thats it.But what made me wonder a little more about the panthers taking green was when OC Chud was like he wants to have a kind of deep threat offense. He wants to open it up a little bit more.Best deep threat Reciever on the board is green. But we have to go defense.Gettis and smith are the only deep threat reciever we have.AJ green with them could be pretty nasty.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
