Matt Maiocco has us taking Newton # 1 overall

Arguably the top 5 QBs in today's NFL, in no particular order:

Brady

Manning

Brees

Rodgers

Rivers

All of these QBs are accurate passers, none of them are known for being overly mobile. Definitely not runners, and Manning and Brady are downright slow.

If we take Newton at #1, I will pee on Hurney's head.

And numbers 6-10 are

Big Ben

Vick

Freeman

Ryan

Romo (damn are QBs in the league really that weak where he makes my top 10?)

Thats 4 of 5 who are very mobile and if you counted Rodgers as a mobile QB (he definitely is) then half of my top 10 can be categorized as mobile.

I'm big on defining terms, and one of the ones that people tend to get wrong is thinking that a "mobile quarterback" is the same thing as a "running quarterback".

A mobile quarterback is one that can move around in the pocket, maybe run the ball if needed, but they're a passer first.

A running quarterback is one whose primary weapon is his legs, which means he's a subpar passer.

Mobile quarterbacks you can win it all with. Running quarterbacks? Not so much.

I'd classify Brees, Rodgers and Rivers as mobile. The key, however, is that they are accurate passers. They use mobility to extend plays so they can help receivers get open...and then get them the ball. Mobility doesn't do you any good if you miss the pass. ala Vick.

Pre-2010 Vick.

Cam for #1 overall? You must be joking. He is easily classified a running qb which as Scott pointed out doesn't mean mobile. Being mobile is more like an advantage rather than a way they play the game. Cam isn't mobile, he isn't planning on eluding DL to get the ball out, he is planning on gaining yardage by running something no QB mentioned consitantley PLANS on doing...

Cam isn't worth the number one pick simply because Peterson is worth it more than him. Needs come later, this is #1 overall. If we take Cam, we'd better do it by trading down, which I think will be an option despite some huddlers. Cam has upside but it comes with it more risk and for #1 overall avoiding risks to me are worth more to me than chancing it on someone's upsides. Later rounds are perfect for this.

I've got it on good accord that the first pick will NOT be QB. They are moving forward with Clausen and believe he wasn't properly developed by the previous staff

Ugh. One more season wasted.

Is Luck a Junior or Senior next year? Could he dodge us again?

If Hurney fugs up this #1 pick somehow, which given the draft is much much easier to do comparing to earlier drafts, it will hurt....bad. Think Brown and AE were bad....it will be as though we started drafting in the third round:(
