Almost 400 posts. Wow. So many twists and turns. I suspect most are like me, not a supporter or detractor, just wanting the position to be better no matter who is installed as starter. It doesn't matter last year whether it was Moore or Clausen so much as no matter who started they played horrible equally sharing the blame. There was plenty to go around for sure.

Last year is over and done. I am looking forward to what is hopefully going to happen if there is a CBA, not rehashing how bad it was last year. Honestly I don't want to remember much of what happened in 2010 pretty much across the board. A bad year for football, for sure.

LET IT GO!!!

You nailed the common denominator. The Clausen supporters are saying, "How could you judge a rookie under these conditions? Isn't that stupid, impulsive, and reflective of a juvenile knowledge of football?" The Clausen bashers are saying, "We saw enough to declare him incompetent as a QB."

My biggest fear is this: With a new staff, a new system, and possibly a new WR, TE, etc., will Clausen have his rookie year in 2011? Very possible that there was nothing positive established in 2010 and it was a wasted experience. It could be that Clausen will have to start over. Won't that alert the Clausen bashers to run get thier torches and pitchforks?

No, he won't be starting over. A big part of the adjustment any rookie has to make is to the speed of the game, and he definitely got that.

I think so too. However, many would disagree. My point (the one I didn't elaborate on) is that he will have to throw out a lot of offensive philosophy. He will have to change his reading (more pre-snap, I presume), and learn to attack. He will also have to rebuild some confidence that was not established in 2010.

As for the speed of the game, ABSOLUTELY. He has film to watch now, and he has battle scars. He will not be wide-eyed.

I have no faith in Clausen

If Joe Montana were a rookie here last year, you would be saying that about him too. Nobody could have survived here.

This is not to say Clausen is the next Montana for those of you without the powers of inference. It is to say he will start over in 2011 with a new everything. If people feel they should pass judgement on him before then, then I question their knowledge of football.

I know enough to know when I don't have enough to know.

Ehh. I really don't know. I don't think anyone could have excelled in the offense we had last year, I think there is a middle ground between "Clausen was awful and can't ever do anything in this league get rid of him now" and "Clausen was a complete product of the offense and is going to be super amazing this year" that may suggest other players would have looked much better, even if they wouldn't have excelled. Say it's arguing semantics if you want but I'm really tired of the "well nobody would have looked any better behind center at all all year for us!" when that just isn't true.

I agree with this. Clausen was in a sucky situation, everyone knows that. But to think his performance was completely due to the situation IMO is as stupid as calling him a bust after one year.
