lol other teams fan forums are going crazy right now discussing the possibility of signing Charles Johnson.. hope the Panthers realize they will now have to resign one of the best free agents available(only free agent on the top of my head that is better is Asomugha).

anyways, under current CBA rules, is Charles Johnson considered a restricted free agent? If a CBA is reached, we may just be able to throw a 1st and 3rd round tender on him.

And I'm already pissed off.

I just read the news on ESPN, They said that Charles Johnson and DWILL will now be unrestricted free agents, I thought CJ would be a restricted FA how is this so?

CJ will be a UFA after the new CBA is signed. If they go back to the old standard of 4 years, which they will.

However, every team has a ton of RFA's that will become UFA's once the CBA is signed. There is no way that the owners are going to sign a CBA and allow themselves and thier teams to be so exposed. I am sure that there will be a "grace period" somewhere that will allow teams a certain amount of time to deal with all of thier new UFA's before they can hit the market. Probably won't be a long time but a few weeks to a month most likely.

This is probably what the FO is counting on in not tagging CJ.

I don't like this. Now your paying a center Tackle money???

Marty Dumbass better not lose DWill for nothing but a comp pick NEXT YEAR!!!

How difficult is it for people like you to understand the value of Kalil?

Kalil is one of the best centers in the league. Centers like him don't come along easy and cheap.

The tag is a tool. The Panthers are going to use it to keep him off the market, and give them more time to get a long term deal done. That is smart, specially considering that Kalil has more value to the Panthers than CJ or D. Williams.

Even if they don't get a long term deal done before the beginning of the season (if there is one), one year at this contract is still worth it to retain one of the best centers in the league, and get him a long term contract.

All this losing D. Will for nothing crap, is crap.

If D. Will. goes somewhere else, it will be because he chose to. Get over about compensation. This isn't Madden. I don't care that there were teams willing to trade for him last season. That is a moot point.

Tagging Kalil was the right thing to do.

I would guess that a majority of the NFL execs and front offices disagree with you.

Stud DEs are considerably more valuable than stud Centers.

Look at their franchise tag price for each position as evidence. Also look at the draft history and the large discrepancy in the number of DEs selected in the first round compared to Centers. On average there is less than ONE Center selected in the first round each year of the draft, compared to FOUR defensive ends selected.

Obviously our front office does agree.

It is also the circumstances.

Kalil has proven himself more than a single season. Many around the league consider him one of the best in the league.

Johnson has had one good year. Yes we need him back, as he is the best defensive lineman we currently have. With only one good season, he won't even sniff the kind of money peppers is getting. He isn't considered one of the best in the league.

Kalil is the man. I watched him at USC and all of his pre-draft stuff (his thing with Will Ferrell was great).

He just seems like a good dude who is easily within the top 10 or top 5 centers in the league. Good for him!

Also, he went from 550k to 10mil. Not too shabby. Glad to see him get it.
