Why I Believe That We Will Trade Down

It's just a burden to throw a dart if you're so green. Dan has his work cut out for him.

We can't right this ship in a single offseason anyway. Dan Morgan needs to focus on the basics. If he gets hung up on trying to get value out of this pick or that pick and trying to acquire extra assets like Scott Fitterer used to always thinking he was the smartest guy in the building then Dan is in all likelihood in for another rude awakening. And as usual the fanbase will be the ones picking up the pieces.

I agree, but if he knows what he's doing, he can gain two for the price of one, and in a draft like this one--if what people believe is true--there's not a difference in quality between about the fifth and 45th picks anyway.

Also, I guess you "didn't see it..."😁

Yeah certainly it can be done in a way that's beneficial and I'm not saying we shouldn't consider it or that I don't believe in Morgan overall. But there are some concerns. I'm just of the opinion that trying to be clever and work the draft with trades should not be our highest priority. Changing our fortunes with our draft picks as a whole should be our priority. If that means just staying put that's fine. Just draft good to great football players don't reach for need and call it a draft because we really need a minimum solid class this year if we are to begin making some headway in getting ourselves out of the cellar.

Sorry, but anyone who doesn't think there isn't much of a difference in quality between the 5th and 45th pick in the draft, then you're an idiot, period.

If that was truly the case, then we'd be better off not even trading back, but trading out of the first 2 rounds of this draft entirely and picking up a ton of future picks instead.

That's not necessarily true. The draft is deep enough that you can get what many think will be quality players into round two. Many people believe that there are only a handful of blue-chippers in this draft.

Outside of them (and maybe even them), there are players that a team that can acquire somewhere within probably picks 35-45 that may end up as the best player at their position in this class. Take the blinders off and ignore the hype, and you could make an argument that after all is said and done that Jalen Milroe could end up the best or second best QB in the class for example, or that Donovan Eziruaku could turn out the best or second best pass rusher, or Quinshon Judkins...or  Elijah Arroyo...or Ozzy Trapilo...or Smael Mondon...or Tate Rutledge.

We can certainly end up with two quality starters, and maybe three, if any picks that we trade for would come early enough. And, no, maybe they aren't considered blue-chippers right now, but that doesn't mean they won't be.

    • I really appreciate Bill explaining his methodology here because that gives interested parties a chance to try and recreate the results themselves. I believe that it's safe to assume that despite emphasis being placed on WRs that Chuba Hubbard is one of the Panthers' top-5 weapons. Considering targets, yardage, receptions, etc... Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette are also on the list. Jalen Coker's success might have snuck him in there as well. I can't draw a conclusion on who #5 is though. I've narrowed it down to Diontae Johnson, David Moore, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and possibly Rico Dowdle if they're taking into account his production for the Cowboys in 2024.
    • Unfortunately business is business especially when there are large sums of money on the table. Goes the same for player and ownership. Does not make it right either way.  Why would he not want to play for the niners? Closer to home with a team that has a chance of delivering a SB trophy.
    • I don’t know if it’s him bad mouthing his former situation in public or my pettiness but either way I’m not a fan. Dude was on playoff teams getting paid millions to entertain. I’m not better that because and I am better than that. You don’t bad mouth your former employer in public. Esp after getting over paid and two, poor little Russian baby didn’t get the playing spot he wanted. Rod had him exactly where is was supposed to be.  He had a mean lip check and did defend our players. Specifically the devils game around Christmas where is our Haula on his ass. Cool. Thank you. But don’t talk poo about us. Because it make you look like Haula.    “need to get as far away as possible”. fug off. Didn’t see Burnsy bad mouthing and his play dropped off too.    sorry, but Orlov doesn’t get a pass from me. See you twice a year…
