Its the reason for the season

The Hershel Walker trade was the worst.  Then Ricky Williams--Man, Mike Ditka came off looking like a circus clown.  Wearing dreads, smoking a cigar, the wedding dress mess...Just too dumb.

Just watched the video--stay away from trading for a RB.

The trade up to #1 was bad on so many levels. Maybe the trade into the first last year. Not making the Burns trade and then the trade they ended up making looks bad in comparison but not stand alone. The CMC trade could be up there but that one was complex given the Panthers situation at that time.

Regarding the CMC deal, I think what is most bothersome is we essentially got pennies on the dollar for a premium player.

I realize that there is some cold comfort in the Mingo business, and getting something in return for Anderson and Johnson but those 3 players are also examples of some high level dysfunction and failure in the organization.

Both CMC and Burns were leaned into because they kept missing at so many other places so when it came to contracts they both got weird. CMC wasn't healthy and isn't healthy still while Burns was never a core guy because he just doesn't produce like a core guy. I never got the CMC crying. He is a beast when healthy but he isn't healthy enough and regardless we won more without him than we did the year we traded him away. RBs just don't have the value fans what to see. Even the Eagles got their RB for just cap in free agency lol. None of us have to like it but that's the value of the best backs in the game right now.

The other trades were positives because they moved on and got anything they could but I agree with what you said and would add that the poor drafting just compounds it all looking worse and dysfunctional at the end. Fritterers needless trade backs for lesser talent left a hole that Rhules obliviousness to how the NFL is run started IMO.

I’m going to guess the Sean Gilbert trade.  Maybe Olsen.

The Sean Gilbert trade is kind of funny in retrospect.  I'm not quite sure what the Panthers expected from him.  He had a great season in 1993, but he hadn't been producing like that on a yearly basis.  His 1998 line is basically what you would expect given the last few years of his career.  But at the time, I just remember everyone being furious that he wasn't Aaron Donald essentially.  It's just puzzling, because he had only been argubly that good for one season.

Either way, it was completely stupid to give two 1st round picks for him at 28 years old.

Yeah, we actually got quite a haul for CMC. It's just that we squandered 100% of the resources we received in return.

We would've done the same with a 1st round pick for him, if that's what we had gotten. Same with the rumored 2 firsts for Burns. I am confident we would've found some way to waste it on stupid poo. It's what we do.

I agree. It's really the principle that we got upset about for the Burns trade, less so the ignorant horseshit we would have used it on.

I do think there was likely no team in the NFL willing to give up a 1st for CMC at that time.

I was always fine with that deal but some people still use it as a negative because the haul wasn'tenough in their minds to justify trading him away. The haul was fine but it's still debated even if I agree with your take. That's why I said that one was complex and weird in my previous post.

They absolutely would have blown those picks, Fritterer was our worst GM to date. Still even a broken clock and all of that.

    • lol well that kinda ended up working out in the end, even though I still don't have my jersey yet. Was supposed to ship by tomorrow this time, but just got another email saying it was delayed another 3 weeks and because it's been delayed so long, I had to tell them to keep the order or cancel it, but gave me a 25% off my next order as an apology. Well, my original fear came true and they are now selling the FUSE version (but still not the Blue unfortunately) before the one I ordered was ever shipped. But that's awesome, because I was able to use that coupon to order the FUSE instead and then cancelled the original order.  So I got the jersey I wanted for only $6.30 more than the crappier version costs, and it also says it will be shipped immediately and get here early next week, or 2 weeks before the other was now supposed to be shipped out.
    • I've watched this and think we are well underway.  Believe it or not, Bryce is a big part of this.  The way he bounced back with such grace.  And we've got a lot of young players who want to make their mark, Dave is giving them an opportunity.  I loved our draft.  I like the number of guys we brought in, and they will help build the culture we want under Dave.  We're getting closer, and I think we'll see more wins this year than most of the board. The right culture breeds winning, and winning builds the right culture.  Imho, it's coming.
    • As others have said it's both. One creates the other. But it also takes time sometimes years. And there have been teams lately with new car smell coaching staffs that looked like they were putting it together quickly but things came crashing back down to Earth. Sustainability is the key. For that to happen the meddling of our owners has to stop and they cannot be tempted to return to their ways over any bump in the road either.
