Derek Carr Retires

Damn, that sucks for Derek.

I always liked him as a person, especially after he hopped on the Huddle just to be proud of his older brother.

Hope his next chapter goes smoothly for him.

I think it will depend on who's picking #1

I mean, it's gonna be a bad team and probably a dumpster fire of an organization. That's kinda what it takes to get the #1 overall pick minus a crazy trade up and even then... well, we all know. LOL

Overall more successful than his brother, the gloved wonder. That said, you get the impression his upward trajectory stalled when he broke his leg. He still put up numbers afterwards - it's crazy he owns all Raiders passing stats - but was never really in the conversation on great QBs of his time.

The Manning's know just how hard it is mentally to play QB in the NFL so I really doubt they would let Arch go after 1 full season as a starter in college. He's making a boat load in NIL right now, so he doesn't need to leave for money reasons. Having him stay in college so he can fully develop as a QB before he goes pro is the route they will go with. If they wanted him to go pro as soon as possible he wouldn't have stayed or even went to Texas. Steve Sarkisian sold the Manning family on being able to develop Arch as a QB and I feel like they are going to be patient.

I mean, next year's draft is the first year of his eligibility anyway. Honestly, if they're trying to minimize his injury risk exposure in college this is the path. Sit for two years, light it up for a year, gone.

*a new contender in the Arch Manning sweepstakes enters*

Can anyone remember this much hype for a guy who rode the pine behind a 7th round pick for two years? It's pretty wild. If his last name was anything other than Manning everyone would've forgotten about this kid by now and he'd have to be reintroduced this fall as the #1 QB recruit from a few years back.

Yea top recruits flame out in college all the time.  I feel like Arch would have to be a complete disaster to not go 1st when he comes out.

FWIW I like Nussmeier.

Why? If you're gonna go #1 why wait? Every snap in football has the real potential to be the last one you take or the one that results in an injury that leaves you a significantly diminished version of your former self. Guys like Ewers need to stay in college and collect NIL money until they run out of eligibility. High 1st rounders need to go.

Especially with his playing style. Physically and stylistically he's very similar to Drake Maye. But that style of play ups the injury risk for sure.

Hell, if anything I think the Mannings were fully willing to just keep Arch on the shelf limiting his exposure to injury risk in the college game. Just show what you can do for one year and bounce.

Exactly because of that both his uncles played four years.

It's pretty obvious his uncles are trying to help him carefully manicure a legacy that that keeps with the "Manning" name....

As you pointed out earlier the money doesnt matter to him one way or anther....

I think Texas could go 0-12 and he would still go #1 based on his name and traits like you say.  But nusselman and sellers may be actually better qbs.

Man if bryce stinks it up this season its looking like a damn good year to swap out qbs.  Sellers highlights are just fuging jaw dropping

I'm actually excited to see what Bryce can do this year after his strong finish. But yeah, if he regresses it looks like a potential good chance to turn the page.

If its the saints I could see the Mannings having him declare if he was protected there....

I mean going to his grandads team? Yep

Neither Peyton nor Eli spent two years getting splinters in their ass behind a 7th round pick.

You realize how bad an example that is right?

That's kinda like saying cam newton was third string behind The Golden Calf of Bristol and had to transfer

Except that The Golden Calf of Bristol was a legitimately GREAT college QB (and he was a 1st round draft pick not a 7th). Like one of the legit best of all time. And it was only for one year. That's a terrible comparison.

    • Here's my deal. I hate the whole "Alpha" bullshit, because it has been turned into an act, a marketing ploy and a wonky set of qualifications. What I think you need as a QB for your team is the happy, smart leader that brings his teammates along rather than throwing them on his back. And they need to be a stone cold killer when they get to the field. As much as I dislike the guy, it's Brady over the Mannings. It's Montana over Marino. It's Bradshaw over Staubach.  And here's the one that'll get me killed around here: It's Jake over Cam.
    • Joe Burrow hasn't played for three quarters of the season and very little in the pre-season. He comes back and posts some very good numbers and leads his team to victory. That's what a #1 franchise QB should be doing, not whatever is going on here. The eye test doesn't lie. Throw out the rose colored glasses and believe what your eyes are telling you. Five more games and then a decision needs to be made on a certain players permanent status.  Do what is right for the team and fiqure out how to improve that one very critical position. Please don't fug it up this time.
    • I’m all for bringing a QB in but who? The FA list is ass. The draft class isn’t great I’d take a flier on Trey Lance and if available in 4th someone like Leavitt or Mateer? I never wanted Dalton back especially at the contract Dan gave him. He’s utterly useless on the field and his cap hit isn’t nothing. He provides nothing.  There’s a lot of bad QB play this year and passing is down. Guys worth trading for are most likely not going to get traded.  As much as many of you don’t want to hear it our best option is to decline the 5th year option. Give Bryce 2026 while we have him under contract. Then in 2027 either sign Bryce (tag would be an option. Don’t repeat the Darnold mistake) or draft another QB and do it all again
