They almost traded him and the Dallas first at the trade deadline for Boeser.

Point stands though.  Tough to sell another team on the idea of KK through 29-30 season.  And then ask for them to give you something for the privilege?  I think if he can be moved, he will be.  Seems like Rod is done with him.

A sneaky weak spot is going to be our goal tender situation. I dont believe in Kooch and Anderson cant stay in net forever.

Couldn't agree more, Kooch is erratic and Freddy is fragile, maybe save the remaining cap space for a goalie stud at the deadline

Question to the posters on this thread because you are knowledgeable--I love watching and pull for the Canes, but I never played so I don't have the understanding I had when I played football then watched it.  Having said that, Do you think we are weak at Center?  I see the team to be pretty strong on the wings, promising defense, and weak at Goalie.  It would be ideal if the Canes had 1 more position to upgrade, not 2.  I don't think you can count on Anderson to play a full season and he is 35.  However, are we solid at Center in your view?

Draft bust, most definitely for sure. Misunderstood what you were saying. My bad.

KKs flaws are he isnt a good skater, He isn't a playmaker and although he has a booming shot his wind up is so long he almost never gets it off.

His sole value is as a defensive checking center.

Basically I just meant a bust at the point we acquired him, which yeah he definitely was, Miller definitely was not... he had problems with Laviolets hybrid man/zone.

Our defensive scheme is VERY friendly to big athletic/good skating d men....

Sjkei and Chatfield are great examples of it.... and while I do think we paid a lot I believe in our scheme Miller will pay big dividends.

He's another player that the organization thinks they can fix.  Sometimes it doesn't work out (KK), but Miller's flaws seem fixable.

That's the thing the more I go back and watch him (agaist teams that arent the canes) the more im sure i don't think he really has to fix anything, he has all the tools to excel immediately in our scheme, as its more quick read and react.

In theory that would be nice, but i can almost guarantee you no one who will be an upgrade will be available.... much less a "stud"

This is a list of goalies who are free agents in 2026 aka possibly be sold at the deadline..... the only one I see that might help us is a retread in Ned.... (honestly should have never gotten rid of him hes performed admirably in much worse situations since leaving).

Yes we are weak at 2C,  I wouldnt say C overall just we have Aho and then 3 guys who should be third Cs.....

If we dont aquire someone I suspect we will finally see Jarvis at center this year.

I see what you mean with Freddie, and I agree to an extent I think we should limit his regular season starts and focus on keeping him healthy for the playoffs.

He has been very good in the post season contrary to what some casuals think we DID not lose because of Freddie....  2.02 GAA and a .907 %

We lost to florida because our small offensive D men couldn't keep the Panthers from parking right in front of him.

We need to go hard for someone, any means necessary.

See thats the problem is you need an upgrade and lots of people have a spare bit of cap space.

The best bet is finding someone who can take 30ish regular season starts at the same level as our guys.... I do not believe there will be anyone who would be a post season upgrade available this season.

I just hate for like every year for the past 7 seasons there is always an excuse not to improve our team to put us over the top, especially at goaltender.

The athletic has the right Idea IMO

Jarvis will be our 1B center.....

It's either Jarvis or Stankoven unless they pull off a trade. I'd imagine that KK will play wing on the third line.

Svechnikov - Aho - Ehlers

Hall - Jarvis - Stankoven

Martinook - Staal - KK

Robinson - Jankowski - Carrier

Looks a lot better to me. Lol

Not an excuse STAR goalies are just NOT traded....

Best bet of that would be the Rangers sucking real hard and going full rebuild but they wouldnt want to trade us and if they did it would hurt.

Star goalies don't grow on trees....

Not to mention the past two years it didnt matter who we had in goal..... when you turn the puck over like that and get out muscled in the middle of the ice it doesn't matter who is in net.

I think its Jarvis Stankoven is even smaller than Jarvy and isnt as good defensively.  Ive wanted Jarvis at center for a while... I think hes PPG easy at C and probably a Selke winner at that

    • I mean, at the time that wouldn't have worked for them. The truth is that when they had the biggest advantage in that conversation was also when Notre Dame was at their peak arrogance and revenue stream creation(prior to the Longhorns Network, etc). Notre Dame was just never going to work out. The biggest thing they could have done is go hard AF and try to give insane deals to the premier Big 12 teams. Even then, most of them were eyeing the Big Ten and SEC. The biggest issue with the ACC was betting wrong. Miami and Virginia Tech ended up being disasters. Basically former college football powerhouses that ended up being afterthoughts by the time they arrived. I mean Miami specifically have literally had a total of three double digit win seasons since they joined the ACC in 2004 and two of those are in the past 2 seasons. Virginia Tech just fell apart at the wrong time, although I think Franklin will bring them back to prominence to an extent. Had we had it to do in hindsight, probably taking teams like TCU, Baylor, etc would have been wiser options than some of the moves into the Northeast and getting Miami.   But, ultimately, fug all this nonsense. It's the insane greed of college football that killed regional rivalries, college basketball and entire storied, REGIONAL conferences. That is the real blame. The thirst for the destruction of all college sports which sits squarely at the feet of the slobbering, ignorant rednecks and hillbillies at the top of the college football sphere.
