Super impressed with this guy.  If he were 6ft he'd be a first round pick.  I loved watching him play. Competitiveness through the roof.  Kind of reminds me a bit of Doug Flutie.

He will also be 25 years old in the 2026 NFL season. He kind of needs to be an instant hit.

It's time to start seriously taking about Haynes King for Heisman.

Glorified option QB in the modern era is a tough sell, TBH. It's a weak class but getting 43% of your season's total in passing TD's in one of your 7 games to date is not an easy sell. Close to 300 yds/GM of offense is very respectable.

I am just not sure we are in an era where a guy like that is in serious consideration without insanely dominant stats.

ACC POY, for sure.

It should just be about the best college football player and IMO he's it.

I think Heisman voters kinda got tired of hearing about Heisman winners not panning out in the NFL when it just shouldn't be a relevant factor at all.

I think Mendoza is a very clearly better player.

Also, the Heisman is traditionally the best QB or RB on a top 10 ranked team. Has literally never been "best player" at any point in it's history as an award.

GT's next two opponents are not very good at defending the pass, and Pitt is only average, so he will have a chance to rack up some numbers before he gets to Georgia.  But I agree with you, almost no chance at the Heisman.  POY or Offensive POY, he is the favorite.

I think he's clearly the better pro prospect but GT be undefeated with him. And yeah, you gotta be on a good team. That just is what it is. Same with the MVP in the NFL. It's the best player out of the good teams.

They are both top 10 teams and undefeated but Mendoza has been both better, his team has been insanely dominant and his resume is substantially better. He will probably get some consideration, at least. Largely due to the very weak field so far.

I will also point out that the Heisman has been the consistenly least respectable award in all of US college revenue athletics and major professional athletics.

I view it as basically the MTV Best Kiss award equivalent in athletics.

I think GT will be 12-1 going into the playoffs.  That will be a top 5 team.   They already are a top 10 team.

King is the best football player.  Mendoza the best QB

If they lose a game, they will likely not be in the top 10 and it's debateable they will make the playoffs.

12-1 makes them a top 5 team going into the playoffs IMO.  Where you putting a 12-1 ACC champ?  How could you put that outside the top 10

I mean,  that’s the resume that got you into the 4 team playoff.  Not sure how a loss to UGA would send them out of the top 10

Don't forget 13-0 FSU. They very much didn't deserve a playoff bid and I am not 100% sure a 12-1 ACC team would either.

Lots of variables between then and now but you do have to remember the ACC is a mid-tier G5 conference. You have to be pretty close to being perfect.

    • Exactly.  You let him play out next season and continue to develop Thorton.  Jackson’s earned his next contract, but his age and the risk of tying up such a large portion of the payroll at one position leads me to believe that we’ll let him walk. In all likelihood, we’ll draft another CB, or two, and bring in some journeymen to fill the roster void, between now and the start of the 2027 season.  That’ll create more balance financially across the roster enabling us to invest in other areas.
    • As far as the NFCS … I think this division will be hotly contested the next couple of years.   I am tending to pay more respect to both Atlanta and the Saints n terms of how strong they will be moving forward, than not.    I am mixed on Ryan but think they have a decent roster to start with. I don’t think he blundered hiring Stefanski. And that offense can be dangerous with a QB. Plus, defense is arrow up. No 1st round pick, WB issues will dull their effectiveness. Question is, to what degree?   I think Moore is going to be a good HC and can overcome tape that people have on Shough. They need a lot but they were playing with people. Just the way you want to see all the way to the end.    Not sure about Tampa they have Mayfield but I don’t think they can maintain their success and Bowles is not going to last much longer. They have to go through all that. Gonna be tough once it starts. Might already have started.    For us I feel pretty good about Morgan. But less so about our offense, we have some short term RB and OL issues and those things are critical given what we are working with at QB.  Overall, mixed. Like a lot of what I see but some major question marks remain.
    • Absolutely. If we are talking about a 20 year old youngster. He's a grown-ass man, and he doesn't know what his job entails or how to do it? Maybe he will be better next year! It's the Panther way.
