Canales and Bryce thoughts

Bryce's situation reminds me of Rivera in 2012. Rivera should have been fired after the 2012 season, but he fired off some wins and got to keep his job.

Bryce should have entered the offseason with no guarantee that he was going to be the starter and we bring in competition. Instead he "played well" and got to keep his job with no competition brought in.

I do not understand why they thought Dalton would be good enough. Dalton should have been let go and we should have brought in someone younger with at least a smidge of potential. Even if that was a late round pick.

It made no sense to not try and upgrade at QB over Dalton. Im sure Andy is a nice guy but he really has no upside and after last year, he doesn't have anything to add other than a nickname. This season was always meant to be ride or die with Bryce and it's sinking fast. Now whether it's Tepper forcing it, Dan who believed Bryce to have turned the corner, or Canales who thought Bryce could be the guy, its obvious this plan ain't working and the Huddle GMs are right again. No matter whether you believe Bryce is it or not, you always, always, always, try to get better at every position.

It seems obvious that Tepper placed conditions on their employment. I hope this has an expiration date.

I’m not trying to be an asshole to you I am just frustrated

I will just say that when people make agreements they need to follow through on them.
My understanding of what was done and why it was done with Canales is that we knew we were hiring a guy that wasn’t ready. We agreed that we would give him time to be read to grow into it. I didn’t pick Canales but he had a track record of helping QBs.
I never for a minute believed anyone could help Young be what he can never be.
Ao you hand a green side a clusterfug and expect miracles right away.
That could never work. But with some time and better QB to work with it might. People learn the guy is overwhelmed but not without merit.
Peraonally I got slammed for saying I wasn’t thrilled with his positive and he sounds like a metrosexual beta to me. Not the hard nose ball coach I am used to  I knn no ow he isn’t perfect but at some point we need to stick to a plan

doegivw the typos I am on a tiny phone with big fingers.

The plan is fine. I just think they picked the wrong green horn to stick to.

See there is the rub. I don’t think he got a fair chance. So who would you turn to?

I'll have to agree to disagree on how fair it was. In my view from the peanut gallery he had an opportunity to hedge his bet going into this season. Even if he were confident in Young he hasn't shown he can produce with him. He hasn't shown an ability to adjust his system or play calls during the game. He cannot control his own coaches or coaching decisions. And that's just off the top of my head. If I really gave two sh*ts I'm sure I could dig up a few more reasons.

I'm coming to the realization that I may never see this team competitive again in my lifetime. F*ck you Tepper.

Honestly I feel like we should keep BY regardless if we draft a QB #1 next year.

I'm tired of us throwing out QBs just to see them get good after they leave.

He will never be "good". His ceiling is a 2nd or 3rd string QB that does some mop-up work or when the starter goes down for a game or two.

What you have seen is it.

Maybe this is the rub: I am not convinced that he had the okay to seek an upgrade in waiting. He did bring Hooker in. I know that doesn’t seem like much but it might indicate a want.
I am reminded of a back and forth on the Monday meetings we had last year and you atringly asserted that Tepper was meddling. Yet you are discounting the possibility, or the degree of it now maybe. Because he Could have put conditions on things like no undermining Bruce he gets every chance. Everything I have seen aligns with that Especially the 2024 draft fwiw.
I believe Evero has Tepee’s  backing and he got autonomy. Or could have. It is reasonable to assume that possibility especially given how lightly Canales has treaded discussing defensive issues and personnel. Food for thought.

Whatever agreement they had on Young shouldn't apply to the rest of the team. It doesn't excuse his failures unrelated to Young. Thats the rub with me. Tepper is not controlling that. If he is then Tepper truly is the head coach which makes Canales nothing more than a OC and not a good one at that.

I see that last point I think there is a power struggle between Canales and Evero or somebody. With that language about ‘pushing for the young guys’, was it? That doesn’t say I am in charge. And that could be a problem. Beta style.
You get this poo with offensive focused coaches. I have always preferred defensive guys because they keep you in the game. and other stuff.
I am not a Canales man in the sense that I am like the Bryce people, fervent and stubborn (sorry y’all).
I want to have a reason that makes sense to me to turn on him. Everyone has different standards. For instance I was done with Hurnry  the first time he traded a future first. Fox, 2010 sealed it. I stay patient. This thing with Bryce is probably the only time I have railed against a draft pick. Pick swaps yes, players no. It is a special kind of stupid when I can immediately see it. Fwiw.

    • This is what happens when you let a guy who should be a career backup get 3 years of starts under his belt.
    • This is a joke, right? Does he watch the games? Tied for worst road record as a starting qb with a guy who played over 50 years ago. Really special level of analysis.
