OK, now it's time to discuss a couple of yesterday's problems. Let's talk "Evero."

Dude, we beat the Falcons 30-0, held the Cowboys to less points than Green Bay did, and held the Dolphins to well enough to go on a 27-3 run, or 27-6 run.

We also went on a run against the Cardinals.

The defense is going to depend on the development of a pass rush from Princely and Nic. Both have the ability

Was CeeDee Lamb playing?

Moreover, anyone being honest, knows that our win against the Falcons was arguably as much or more about Penix playing terribly than Evero's scheming.

If we get to the meat of our schedule and start giving teams that are actually top tier teams "the business" defensively, then I'll concede that Evero just might know what he's doing.

Let's see them shut the Bills and Packers down. How about the Bucs and Seahawks? Let's repeat the performance against the Falcons. Perhaps then I will be a believer.

In your honest opinion, what would've happened had CeeDee been playing?

Stopping the run is great, but it's not good enough to just stop the run. Moreover, it's not like Jaycee was great yesterday. The DBs' play yesterday wasn't even necessarily good, but sure we'll get better if we get another corner capable of covering top receivers. That's still not an excuse, nor is being unwilling or unable to make adjustments just because you're married to a certain set scheme.

George Pickens was not, and maybe still is not, considered "elite." He may be on his way, but throwing the word around to make a point is just that. But, If Pickens plays against the Panthers and Evero every week, I'm sure that he will be considered elite sooner than later, especially since the DC didn't seem to have any answers.

Lastly, if CeeDee was playing, despite exceptional run defense, we likely would have taken just another L.

Don't get saucy just because some people aren't jumping for joy after Pickens had the second best receiving output of his career. There is something called projection.

IMO, if Ceedee plays against us, the game probably goes the other way. Same with Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins. Our team just isn't designed to beat teams with two high level receivers like that. But when you look at the league, how many teams really have two guys of that caliber?

There's nothing wrong with defensive adjustments, but sometimes I think a lot of fans want Evero to call a different play like a game on madden, and defensive football just isn't like that. That said, I thought we did a much better job this season against the Cowboys of flipping Jaycee and at least making them work for it, opposed to last season when they literally just lined CeeDee up on the other side of the field every single snap.

For us to just straight up switch to consistent man coverage, or a different zone, or whatever, we likely would consistently need different personnel on the field. Doing it a few times a game is a gamble and can work, but if we consistently run man coverage against the Cowboys, eventually a RB is going to beat a linebacker, or something of that nature with our personnel. Part of the reason Evero likes this scheme is that, while we have our defaults and presets, what we do is very multiple, and you can do a lot of different things pre and post snap. We are a challenging defense to read. But as you said, if guys are getting beat, it doesn't really matter what you call.

That’s fine. But 30-0 isn’t just an “off game” by the Falcants. That was a beat down through and through.

The Panthers also just held one of the leagues best rushing offenses to what, 40 yards? Stopping the run is how you win playoff games, period. I like what I’ve seen, and Bryce is getting his clutch gene back.

I don’t know that it would’ve been better but if you’re not going to have horn travel with the #1 and mike Jack is getting brutalized, maybe give Thornton some run 🤷‍♂️ we’ve already seen the improvement on D when evero was forced to play princely and scourton

Maybe they just put Evero’s headset on a different channel and Wash is calling the plays while Ejiro speaks into oblivion

LOL Good one.

Like with Wings, Paul McCartney’s band where they kept his wife’s vocals in her monitor only maybe Paul’s. Never to the FOH mix.

    • The good news is that we are pretty uniquely well established to address all of our needs this season. We have $14m real cap space, and something like $40m in trade deadline cap space. Not sure exactly how that works out. But, we have the room to absorb any bad contracts. With recent rule changes regarding retention, that went into effect this season, we now have a huge advantage in the trade market.  On top of that, while we do have obvious needs, we also have a glut of talent in certain areas that we struggle to find ice time for. We are over-stocked on scrappy talented lil-guys, strong defensively sound 3rd liners and shutdown left shot dmen. Whether it's a package or separate deals, idk. But, one of each from Stank/Blake/Nads, Erob/Carrier/KK/Jank, and Walker/Nystrom; throw in some 1st round picks (and frankly any other prospects they want) and we should be able to come out with a 1b to pair with Bussi and either a 2c with size or a 2c and size.   TL/DR We got the money, you got the stuff?
    • I don’t  think 6’4 was ever considered small or undersized. Baby hands tho, yes that was his thing That’s an interesting idea, like an optical illusion? Sounds like you have personal experience with this!
    • in the 25' draft the Carolina Panthers had hired Brandt Tillis someone who actually understood how to build a successful team & build through the draft .  this team was yes mismanaged for years prior to Brandt Tillis joining the team in 25' & rarely done anything right in the draft outside occaionaly getting lucky on an UDFA such as Jalen Coker who's dad coincidentally happened to be a huge Carolina Panthers fan, hint hint  ...just saying
