It’s not new. That particular claim has largely disappeared because it has become untenable, but a few games into his rookie year when the playbook/gameplan/personnel/everything was terrible there was endless claims, posts, even threads made that Bryce Young was physically incapable of throwing the ball 20 yards downfield in the NFL. It was also argued that physically throwing the ball 20 yards in the NFL was somehow different than college. Once he threw the ball 20 yards, the goal posts moved to 30 yards, etc. I’m not going to use the search function for you, the point wasn’t as much that one claim as it was that that was one claim out of many that has made it very difficult to have a reasonable discussion here.

I think all this is standard internet arguing.  Basically, you know what people meant, but it's better for argument's sakes to take things you know aren't literal as literal. (you as in people in general, not you you)

I do recall discussion of who throwing the ball downfield is different in the NFL than college.  Because it is.

A lot of decisions and throws that work in college are no longer on the table.  NFL defenses are better and faster.  Windows become smaller.   So yeah, throws in the NFL are different than college.  For example, Bryce doesn't need to be throwing a lot of traditional out routes.  We have found that out.   Back shoulder? Comebacks? Ok.   Some deeper stuff over the middle? Windows are way smaller and close faster in the NFL.  Balls that worked in college will get picked.

After the end of the Cam era this place devolved into the most un-fun, petty, negative cesspool of whining and bitching that has ever graced the internet. The worst part of it all is that the level of discussion turned into the most ill-informed, hot-take, unnuanced crap, rife with people talking out of their posteriors as if they have any clue about what they are watching.

Again, can’t have a serious discussion if constantly wading through hyperbole. And you say that’s not really what was meant, but I tried to at one point get some folks to concede that he was physically capable of throwing a football 20yds just so we could get to a real discussion and they stuck with it. So I’m not sure your characterization is entirely accurate.

Maybe people need to have a reasonable filter to help them differentiate exaggeration for effect from serious claims.

I’m pretty capable of judging that. If you think we’re all so dumb then no point in talking to us. Everybody is just so over our heads saying silly things for fun and we’re internet autists I guess.

I have never seen anyone dig into the claim Bryce Young LITERALLY can't throw the ball 20 yards. I don't think acting like THAT is an actual position here, is a good position to argue from.

Ok, I did, and it happened, and that’s one of many ridiculous positions that have made it difficult to have real discussions here. Again, that was a point among several that I pointed out, and there are more that I didn’t point out. You are latching onto it because it’s ridiculous. And that was also the point.

Thatks funny because just this morning I read a couple ‘you Bryce haters don’t understand’ implying that only one side does.

I do agree it is pointless talking with you but some things are hard to let pass so I expect we both will continue.

Well, it's clearly not a broadly or largely made claim around here......if no one can find it/share it being made.  So, wouldn't that make it a poor thing to argue about?  That's all.

As to the topic, I've complained before about "superstar" mentality, i.e. the notion that you can win championships with one superstar player surrounded by a group of mediocre fill ins.

It just doesn't work.

The Manning-Brady rivalry was something of a showcase for that. The Colts general approach focused everything on Manning. The Patriots? Oh, they also had a superstar quarterback but they built a complete team, especially on the defensive side.

This sort of thing is why I've argued many times that "system quarterback" should be to considered a description, not an insult.

I know everybody loves the "MVP" athletic types, and they're fun to watch, but that's not necessarily the true path to consistent winning and championship glory.
