Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It Is

You can characterize it however you want, but at each step you are saying "this is what I saw" and what I am providing is actual data. And at no point have I ever characterized Bryce as some deep throwing savant, merely pointing out that the data does not support the idea that he is incapable of attempting and making those kinds of throws.

In fact, if we want to get into the analytical weeds, I have my own quarterback metric that I have developed over the years that has a higher correlation with wins than either passer rating or ANYA or ESPN's QBR, and it places Bryce as the 25th rated QB in all of football. If I was biased in any way I'd try to massage the formula to make him look better but the reality is that his lows have greatly weighed on his overall average even this season and he absolutely needs to continue to improve to give this team a chance at future championships.

If you want to dive into the data yourself check out https://qba.info

I know how you will characterize this but I don’t need your data thank you.
My dad was a HS ball coach. I have watched the NFL since probably 1962.

I know what I am looking at when I watch it.

That was definitely true then but I don’t think it is much anymore. Bryce actually had a higher YPA than Dalton last year

You are ignoring what I said - to fall back on your stats. I was talking about one game. Well, maybe two games one from week 3 2023 and one from week 3 2024 (the annual Bryce can’t play reaction weeks lol).

Dalton wore down in 2024, the offense suffered some injuries in the span of games he played. The season stats will skew towards your desired outcome. Could be why you used them but I don’t care because I know what I am looking at.

You avoided answering my question too, about did you see Bryce throw the ball 60 yards?

Well, you've established your bonafides, I've established mine, if you feel they are comparable, then c'est la vie.

There's nothing to counter, Dalton's longest attempt over that time period was 48 air yards. No idea where you remember this magical 60 yard throw from.

Where did I cite Dalton throwing the ball 60 air yards? I believe you err.
The other guy currently in this thread claimed earlier, that Bryce could throw the ball 60 yards and I asked him if he had ever seen that.

Whoa randomly passive aggressive lmao??

If you know anything about football and watch a quarterback throw a ball standing still 50 yards with perfect accuracy - you know he can generally add at least 10 yards to that by crow hopping and heaving it.

To your other points.. you are using a sample size of one game? You don’t want to factor in the other games where he looked so bad it lowered his YPA to below Bryce level? Sounds like you are trying to fit your narrative brotha. The season stats don’t skew based on my preferred outcome.. they are what they are. We were having a normal dialogue about Bryce’s arm strength, not really sure what you’re going on about now tbh

Just baffles me a guy with this ability is struggling so hard to pass for yardage in the modern nfl

Because the online in the NFL can't give you 5 secs with no one even close to you 🤣🤣that's the difference between college and the pros. The ball was still a lil under thrown 🤣🤣

I know he was ranked high as a college prospect. But he stopped growing. I know they won with him but as a non Alabama fan wonder who the hell he beat out for that job and how bad were they? Rhetorical ….
For my money the Alabama QBs after Namath were just not NFL.  I might be forgetting someone.

Tua, Jalen Hurts was there for a while, Ken Stabler... those are the ones with success. Mac Jones is looking pretty good in San Fran right now but that's what good coaching and good team building will do for you.

Still, I think Bryce is growing, just not in height. His growth as a player is on a collision course with the end of this season. Will he come out on top or not? I'm not sure yet, but if he does win out, then I'm going to be happy for him and us. If not, well, he got a shot and a lot of folks never do... And we're back to the drawing boards.

Oh got it. If you’ve been watching since 1962. Explains a lot. My parents weren’t even alive in 1962 and have outdated football takes. At your age you really should just be enjoying the games.

Again. Who on this roster is known for getting deep. Throwing deep ain’t all about the QB. Why you think Patrick stop throwing down field when they had roster changes. Team game.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
