BY will make 9M next year regardless of what happens so he will be here next year. It will cost around 26M to sign him to his fifth year extension. The real question is who would you bring in instead of paying him. Who is or will be available?

Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Kenny Picket, Sam Howell, Geno Smith. Are any them going to make the Panthers significantly better?

Brock Purdy and Daniel Jones may become available but neither will be cheap. What would you pay for them - assuming you don't sign Young to 26M

Cousins is too old, Wllson is done, Pickett isn't any better than Young, Geno might work well with Canales again but he's not going to get us any further in the playoffs.  The only one I would consider is Howell because he's young and had a decent season with the Commanders.  Of course he'd have to clean up his interception rate but otherwise I'd like to see what Canales does with him.

I'm not sold on Howell being better. He was let go pretty quickly by the Commanders and was considerably worse than Young with turnovers

It was his only season he started and the Commanders wanted Jayden Daniels.

He threw for nearly 4000 yds.  He has the tools just need some QB whispering. Plus he can make all the throws.

If we are looking for a QB that isn't going to break the bank, Howell IMO is it.

Geno Smith isn't have a very good season so far so I'm not sure how much better we would be with him. He's also on a 33M contract now so he might not be cheaper than Young @25M. Richardson is interesting but I doubt he could beat out Young. And just no thank you to Minshew.

If they could bring him in as competition and he could beat out Young, I would be fine with it. Isn't he local as well

You're making my point.  You want this and that but when it comes to making a decision on who you are going to replace Young with, you can't give me a player better.

Who tf can give you a better option for next year in the middle of the current season?? Be forreal.

Exactly

Waynesville, NC.

Though so. It would be interesting.

Given how strongly Young is hated around here with the fact Howell local, I bet he could play like crap and everyone would still absolutely love him. lol

    • I have said if you out even an average QB into the offense we are averaging 25+ points a game. But that will never happen with Bryce under center.
    • The defense is 28 out of 32 in salary cap allocation for 2025. We have a ton of resources tied up in the offense including the highest paid OL in the league multiple 1st round WR's and multiple recent draft picks across the offense at TE and RB and we have two 1000 yard backs. Bryce and company couldn't get past Tyler Shough and his crew in 2 games. That's all there is to it. You can spin it and put the entire onus on the defense to your heart's desire it doesn't change the fact that this is an OFFENSIVE team now. If you want to argue that we should revert back to a defensive identity as we have been in the past which has brought us success then I will agree with you on that. But as it stands the onus is on the offense because that is where we have invested through the nose. Dave Canales and Bryce Young need to do a hell of a lot better than they have against the rebuilding Saints who without us should only have 2 wins this season.
    • Bryce is not trending up. He is the same QB he has always been. Bottom of the league in most categories.  If Canales thinks he can build a contender with Bryce then he is a bigger idiot then I thought.  Offense next year will have the same issues and be just as inconsistent as it was this year.  We have seen Bryce’a ceiling and it is 175 yards a game and that is not a QB you keep around as your starter. That is barely a backup.
