Sounds like coaching is the problem

100%.

Outside Bryce, coaching seems to be the biggest issue with this team. We are not prepared enough on too often a basis on one side of the ball or the other.

No excuse for getting whipped in the trenches this badly.

Who says Chuba isn't healthy?

Me, and I'm not alone.

Players playing without being fully healthy isn't exactly a new or unknown thing.

And while we love the "warrior" spirit, sometimes it's counterproductive.

It isn't that he doesn't see down the field, he is failing to read the field. On the INT that stood, he bit completely on a blitz fake, stared TMac down and somehow didn't see the defender dropping into coverage despite seeming to stare at him

I don't even worry that much about what he can see.

Even if he sees everything clearly, his actual passing accuracy beyond mid-range is extremely hot or miss.

I mean there’s nothing to really discuss. The pass game has been garbage all season (longer than that really). The Saints sold out to stop the run and Bryce couldn’t push the ball downfield per usual. Defense kept up as long as they could.

End of Story.

I gotcha

But looking at that game today the last thing I thought was man what if Chuba was healthy.

It's good to have quality backups at all positions, but the Saints were selling out today to stop the run, we needed to make them pay with the passing game.

We can have 4 quality backs without a Qb being able to threaten the defense It's all for nought.

Bryce can absolutely be blamed for a poor game plan if the reason is he is too short to see over the line and can’t throw down the field.

Bryce doesn't make the game plan.

The coach, who is (or should be) well aware of his limitations, does.

If he fails to account for those things, it's on him.

(and he did)

My observations about Hubbard relate primarily to future games.

But he could have helped today in one regard, that being to lessen the wear and tear on Dowdle (who was definitely struggling late).

Still doesn't fix poor game planning though...

They should get Etienne involved more and see what he could bring, if Chuba really is not healthy, he's not helping us win games in that condition.

You’re just going to have a hard time convincing me that a team can be successful without a bonafide starting QB.

Canales is most likely not the answer either but I’d rather have him and a real QB than a new Coach and the midget.

Not trying to...

Said up front I wanted to focus on problems other than Bryce.

And yes, those exist, whether people choose to acknowledge them or not.

Some people are/were entertaining the idea of the Panthers in the playoffs. This was a preview of how it would go. The Saints are not a playoff team, but when the stakes go up in the playoffs, the opponent tries to take away a team's strength, and Young isn't good enough to even make the Saints pay for that strategy.

Even accounting for the Saints focus on him, Dowdle looks like he's getting worn down. Using him as a workhorse may not be sustainable over the full season, especially not with the line playing like they did in this one.

That is my #1 concern.  He will wear out if they don't share the load some way, some how.

Can’t see down the field and a coach who constantly calls plays that makes him do it

…and a qb you can’t use on short yardage

…and an offense that is lateral  because he can’t go vertical

it is a poo show.  Plan and simple or Cam used to say ‘simple and plain’

"Lateral offense" is a pretty common criticism of WCO type schemes.

But yeah, the coaches are making some mistakes.
