One of the few things people knock Cam Newton for is some of his off field issues dealing with money. The kid, or his dad, may be greedy, but that does not mean that he will flame out like Russell. Joe Montana is one of the greediest bastards I've heard of, hell he probably used to charge his grandmother 40K to show up for Thanksgiving dinner.

There are plenty of greedy SOBs (Donald Trump, Gene Simmons, Alex P. Keaton...) who use that as motivation to work hard. If Newton truly is greedy, really greedy, he will likely use that to work his ass off to generate a juicy 150M contract a few years from now. I'm not saying Newton is greedy, and I'm not saying he necessarily would use it to work hard. I'm just saying that if you feel Newton is greedy, you can't dismiss him as someone who won't work hard.

Looking at what little we know of the #1 prospects, I personally would prefer to have a badass of a DT like Suh. But, I really get the feeling that Fariley is going to end up like Haynesworth...lazy. For this reason, I'm leaning toward Newton. So far, I just get the impression that Newton will work harder than Fairley, regardless of the motivation, and that makes his chances of succeeding much higher in my mind. I don't know poo about PP boy.

There isn't a letter, he ran before they could boot him. And don't' sit there and say there is no proof. It has been in many articles repeatedly for months now.

Exactly. And you left out the fact that his father was pimping him around the SEC for nearly $200K. Cam supporters will say, "But the NCAA determined that he didn't know!" They will not realize that others probably protected him.

Who do they think taught Cam his values?

I have one question for the nuthuggers: Do you want us to draft a bust? You seem to be begging for it. Your minds are closed and you defend something you don't know. It is OK to question these concerns. We are about to invest a lot in this pick.

If I were buying stock, I would check out the financial performance of the company. Red flags about ethics would steer me away. It is not court. I don't have the burden of proof. I smell smoke, I am not waiting for the fire. I am surely not investing in a company I don't trust.

Final thiought: Why do the Cam lovers think we have to PROVE these allegations? We do not have the means to do so. This is an investment. Not a right. The more you invest, the more trustworthy the player needs to be. If it looks like a bust, smells like a bust, that is all I need to know. I don't care how many TDs he scored in 14 games.

We need to realize that character, honesty, and ethics matter. If there are numerous questions that we cannot answer, do not expect the person who is unethical, who stands to lose millions, to do anything more than justify the things you question. The facts of his past are closer to the truth than the explanations from his camp.

You know. You guys bring up a lot of good points with Cam. You really do. But what I have seen, and how I feel about the whole situation is, I want us to take Cam. If we don't it will be because our staff weren't satisfied with his ability or his off the field stuff. I am cool with that. I feel we need to draft him but if we don't we are going to get a good football player who will help this team.

The close mindedness IMO has come from the anti-Cam crowd.

You guys have already determined he is a bust, a convict, greedy, selfish, and a bad teammate.

But some of these conclusions has come from things he may or may not have even done. In several of these "red flags" situations they are based on allegations that have never been proven.

I said something similar in another thread and someone (I think MHS) said, "Where there is smoke..." Knowing a little bit about the law I can tell you the "Where there is smoke.." phrase comes from prosecutors who lack proper evidence to convict someone. I can also tell you that every day in courtrooms across the country there are people acquitted who were charged because of a lot of smoke but later was found to be innocent.

It is a meaningless saying designed to convey guilt in the absence of concrete proof.

Having said all that, I am not trying to absolve Cam from all suspicion, and these things need to be discussed. But some of you have already decided his verdict. That isn't fair.

You guys keep accusing us of being close minded when all we want is for you to keep an open mind and give Cam a fair shake as we go into this process. And then trust the process to take care of these issues.

If after that process if the Panthers decide to take him I hope you will give the kid a chance to prove himself. At this point I am not convinced that you will.
