Smith-Wade to safety sounds like a terrible idea. Unfortunately the guy just isn't very talented and she honestly be a sub corner or dime back at best

Dont know how much of that is kaye speculating or inside info--i used to be a reporter at the Observer for a few months out of college (internship type thing) and I was close to Bonnell.  He was a master at not blasting whispers and inside intel to sell a paper.  He knew stuff, but he never tried to become Nostradamus.

I am going to research C Samac.  They kept him on the active roster for a reason.  They told Corbett and Mays and BC to test the market for a reason.

It looks like his biggest knock was his size / strength. A year with a nfl caliber strength coach ad nutritionist may have done him a world of good. FWIW (not much), he came out of Michigan State listed at 307 lbs and we have him at 314. I'll be watching him like a hawk this preseason.

Overview

A three-year starter with good feet and technique, Samac could be in consideration for a move-blocking rushing attack. He is strong at the point of attack but will have limitations against NFL power. He operates with good hand placement and nimble feet and is a demon once he’s on the move as a pulling center leading the way. He’s fluid and agile in the run game, but those traits fail to do as much for him in protection. Samac punches with inside hands but can struggle to widen his protection base in order to protect his edges. He has eventual starting talent as a run blocker but needs to add more mass and improve in pass protection to get there.

Strengths

  • Enters into initial contact with body control and accuracy.
  • Plays with above-average hand placement and strong core.
  • Gets chin tucked and hips rolled into seal and base blocks.
  • Athleticism to race around the corner as a pulling lead blocker.
  • Smooth and fluid working from block to block.
  • Sees twists and snaps them off with sharp push.

Weaknesses

  • Not very explosive at the point of first impact.
  • Fails to generate movement on secure block before climbing up.
  • Will have issues handling the size of an NFL odd-front nose.
  • Pulled off balance when defenders feel him leaning in protection.
  • Gets beaten into the pocket by length and edge power.
