Decker or Conklin?

Why would Decker sign here?

He’d be signing a contract under the impression he’ll be on the bench at some point this season. Unless he’s cool just hanging out and collecting a check

Why would he be benched this season? Icky is probably out the year and may never get back to his old form?

So you're comfortable with what we have? If not, do you just roll the dice on a rookie LT, that we really aren't guaranteed to get. Only a few guys in this draft can start day 21 at LT.

we cant afford either, which again I love the signings but there are always 2 sides of the coin when/if things go sideways

Unless they’re telling tackles that Icky is out for the year then it makes no sense for anyone that is still wanting to play rush to sign here

He is almost certainly out for the year based on his injury.  The question is can he come back 100% at all?  Maybe they have made some strides in recovery for that injury I'm unaware of.  I didn't think Tatum would be playing this year in the NBA yet here he is so who know?

This is either going to be a blessing in disguise or be a massive double blow

1) we draft an LT at 19 (don’t have much choice right now) and get another 5 years with a very expensive position on a rookie contract

2) We draft LT and miss on pick and then stuck paying Icky who might never be the same

Moton seems like he could retire any offseason and Hunt will have to be a cap casualty after 2027. I do wonder if Ickey would be willing to switch to guard or RT. I’ve always imagined he’d make an awesome guard

I do wonder how much the Moton part of the equation comes into play here with the type of T they are scouting.

Super athletic swing tackle that's played both sides like Freeling and Lomu make a lot of sense. Proctor and Miller look like RGs in the NFL with the former possibly being a G. Iheanachor really intrigues me too and his comp is Taylor freaking Moton.

I think it's Moton's last year regardless.  We are almost certainly drafting an OT.  If they are high enough they might be out LT this year and then we are going to have to take a long look at Icky and possibly offer a one year deal to see how he is recovered.  I could see him sliding to the inside or maybe RT if Moton retires and our rookie LT looked the part.  That Icky injury was quite the curveball in our offseason plans....

We also have two very expensive and seasoned OGs which is a good time to insert a rookie OT.  Learning beside Hunt or Lewis can really help a rookie OT.  I'd love an OT in the 1st/2nd and an C in the middle somewhere to sit behind the guy we just signed for a year.

    • Yes, but those guys aren't depth guard signings, they're likely going to wait and see who has injuries or players under performing and then sign there. I also think that if Ickey really is going to be able to play at some point this year, that's where our guard depth comes from.  As if he gets to the point of being active, we'd then have 3 LT's on the roster with him, Freeling, and Walker, gotta think one of them not named Freeling gets kicked inside if needed.
    • lol imagine being Hill and this is what your coach thinks about you replacing a guy giving up over 4 goals per game.
    • I don't think Tyreek is a bad player to play with on the field, for sure not in the same way that Diggs is, as he's a cancer on the field with how he acts, and wouldn't take kindly to being 2nd fiddle behind T-Mac. It's that Tyreek is just a terrible person who realistically shouldn't even be in the NFL, his insane athletic ability is why his off field transgressions have been overlooked.  If he was a WR3, no team would have kept him around, it was only that he was a 1st ballot HOF level talent that kept him around. Just zero interest in having a person like that around our young WRs, that's really all it comes down to for me with him. Again, if we were true contenders this year, that changes things and I'd rather bring in the best possible players and hope it works out.  But they're trying to build something here and to do that, you need high quality people, not just great talent.
