If the draft was held today

I think if the Panthers draft Newton, they may set the franchise back a few years. He's in for a rude awakening once he suit up in the big leagues.
he's got more of a chance of making it in the pros than any other QB in this draft and he won't be that hard to get ready for the big game.

physically and probably mentally he's more ready than just about any player in this draft.

set the franchise back a few years lol.

you know what set this franchise back a few years? being scared of failing while drafting a QB. foxball. thinking that an old QB with a bum arm is worth keeping around and ignoring the fact that the league has turned into a passing league.

sitting on our fat rumps because we're scared of busting with newton or even fairley is the big fail. getting some old stop gap QB and hoping that clausen or even that string bean pike or matt moore can develop into a franchise QB while watching from the sidelines....that can set the franchise back a whole lot more years than taking a shot on the best QB prospect of this draft who has the highest ceiling of anyone this year.

Yes I know the jersey is a little purple still....

looks good. wouldn't mind this at all, esp. since it would likely mean that kasay was gone and we probably had enough sense to get someone who could do both FGs and kickoffs.

Today? No CBA, so no trades or FA pick ups. Which means we will fill one of two biggest spots on the team that need attention, DT or QB. Yeah Rivera isn't rolling Clausen as his guy IMO. DT just as bad, but he's a defensive guy & has got his guys to work out what he wants on that side of the ball. He'll want "his guy" at the most important position.

Cam's best attribute is his running ability. That may win you a few games here or there, but it's hardly worth anything in terms of championships. Carolina's expectations of winning a championship next year are slim to none in most people's eyes. The best thing we can do is build the defense up with the first pick. Maybe trade back into the early second round and draft Kyle Rudolph. Then with our third pick, perhaps draft Colin Kaepernick if he's still there. (He may turn out to be the best QB in this draft)

    • If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.
    • And what is x gunna help with except show him what not to do. Plus for the first year and a half he was just an obstacle
    • I understand that some people want WR. I am solidly against using yet another high pick there. Coker is pretty good and we used No picks on him.  What I think we really need at WR is a little bit of a Smitty lite. It is ridiculous to say let’s get a Smitty because you just can’t do that, but someone not tall and long striding but more in his mold. I think we’d have a pretty well rounded group.    Looking at tackle, with replacing Moton looming, it just seems like the no brainer.  You fill in Icky short term. Depending on how he recovers, and how the new guy plays, you go from there. A tackle at 19 is most likely either a LOT, a ROT, or a big talented guard, at worst. We will need all three in the next couple of years.  I would love to have a stud ILB be there at 19 but the OL is the responsible thing to do I believe.
