What Will Your Reaction Be, If Panthers Decide to Take Newton #1 Before Draft?

I know he has a lot of the huddle divided as to whether people want him with the #1 pick or not, but I'm really starting to think unless Gabbert comes out of his pro day looking like Peyton Manning that we're gonna pick Cam. Rivera seems enamored with him, and we're obviously showing a lot of interest while doing our due diligence.

That being said, I'm actually looking forward to us proclaiming who will be the #1 pick before the draft and working out a contract with him prior to the actual draft like many other #1s have done recently. Although I don't know if we'd be able to negotiate that contract with the current labor issues until they're resolved.

My question though: What would your reaction be if we came out and declared that we will be taking him #1 before the draft?

Would you be more disappointed if we waited until draft day to pick or do you want it wrapped up before the draft? Do you think it makes a difference?

I'll be disappointed, but will get over it and do what I always do when we draft someone.. hope for the best.

I wouldn't be disappointed with this one, but that's a good approach because as has been hashed and re-hashed here, Hurney has an excellent track record in #1s... now what he does after that is a different story (Everette Brown, Armanti, CJ Irvin, Attiyah Ellison, Eric Shelton, Dwayne Jarrett, etc.)... But, it seems he's on point with the #1 every year.

Guilty admission: I was really disappointed in the Beason pick and thought it was a reach... I am now his biggest fan and know that while I may be football savvy and know quite a bit about some players coming out, he is our GM for a reason and I'm just a talking head on a message board.

    • Lil Stanky 100% in the dot tonight... And our 2nd line has been our best offensive line this season. Maybe our 2C really was on the roster this whole time...?
    • That’s a grade I kind of expected tbh. I’m not a huge fan of NS, but he’s not as bad as what the huddle says he is minus the horrible game he had vs the Rams. I’ve always thought he’s often used as a scapegoat. The improved pass rush should hide his deficiencies a little bit better if he’s the game one starter. FS might have to be a position we punt on this year unless Thieneman falls to us at 19. The reality is, you're going to have a few average players in certain spots for a team with as many holes we had before free agency started. You can’t sign everyone.
    • I am by no means trying to say he's a world beater. I'm saying it's trending in the right direction. Especially when measured against himself.i think the team feel the same way or else they wouldn't have picked up his option. Plus I think there is a new idea in the NFL about these young QBs. Teams give up to soon. Browns gave up to soon on baker same with the jets on Geno and darnold. Maybe they are who you thought they were in the draft process and they need more time to develop than you originally planned. Either way. I do think he is as capable as darnold is as far as you can win a championship with him. And something he does have that darnold doesn't is he is clutch.  If I need one more drive and 2 mins to go I'm betting on Bryce and I am far from a homer, just going off his game winning drives. He has that dog in him on the last drive.
