Lombardi: Clausen worse in practice than in games

In the years that John Fox was our coach, not once did he clearly show the ability to evaluate or develope a QB. Jake spent his developmental years with the Saints. And it took Fox longer than anyone else to determine that Jake was done. None of the rest of the qb's during the Fox era is worth mentioning.

I am not saying that I think Clausen will be a good QB, but I certainly don't trust the Fox staff to properly evaluate or teach him.

There is not one shred if evidence to back up those claims.

Actually there is.

Brett Jensen interviewed a Panthers higher-up who said that Fox and the coaching staff were somewhat lackadaisical in how they approached the rookies last year (especially Armanti Edwards). Throw in that Rip Scherer's record as a pro QB coach leaves a lot to be desired.

Doesn't mean I think Clausen will be a success, mind you, but that - as well as other factors - do mean that last year wasn't necessarily the best template for judging.

Clausen was inserted week 2....played in 13 games and started 11. He got plenty of attention/coaching.

Fox has a winning record with Jake Delhomme

Fox has a winning record with Matt Moore.

Neither were great QBs. Fox still won. Fox can create an enviroment where an average QB can find success (even young rookie QBs)......Jimmy flat out didn't fit.

I don't think it is fair to say b/c he opted not to deal w/ Edwards than that somehow means Clausen didn't get a fair shot. Weak logic imo.

Not a fan of this logic. This specific argument is based on comparing Delhomme and Moore's overall record, (that spans over more then one season ) to one season as a rookie.

Along with the fact that the 2010 was the least talented team in the Fox era.

Also I think it proable to assume had Moore started the whole season, this team still wouldve had a pretty bad record and thus a losing record with Fox.

Look at Moore as a rookie vs. Clausen as a rookie. Moore was an undrafted rookie who stepped in and functioned and allowed the team to competitive.

The least talented??? in 2010? Are you serious...if you breakdown the team outside of QB on offense it was more talented than the 2007 team.

I still don't see why they gave up on Matt Moore so soon. When he played at least he had flashes of brilliance. I think that if he would have still been QB by the time the receivers had started to settle down the team would have looked a lot better to end the season.

I'm guess that JR is the one who wanted JC to start, not Fox.

So who was this higher up? Did you hear the actual interview?

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
