Panthers not high on Gabbert

Recommended Posts

i would like to interrupt this thread momentarily to make one simple observation. The "smokescreen!!!" jokes are as tired, old, and unfunny as the persistent "it is what it is" jokes that have plagued this board for the last few years. That is all.

oooh wee mayne....

A league source tells SI.com's Don Banks that Carolina "doesn't really love"

Mizzou QB Blaine Gabbert enough to select him at No. 1 overall.

The Panthers reportedly question Gabbert's accuracy outside and deep down the field. Gabbert's numbers on those throws were significantly lower than Cam Newton's. We haven't seen Gabbert throw yet, so his draft momentum hinges on his March 17 Pro Day performance.

Source: Rotoworld per SI.com, http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/don_banks/03/10/nfl-pro-days/index.html?eref=writers

I'd say we'll reserve final judgement until at least March 18th, but if this it true, fine with me. We'll need to start realistically widdling down who we are truly considering with our pick by end of the month anyway.
