FYI on the Newton Debate

Judge allowing a one year extension of 2010 CBA still a possibility.

This really doesn't make sense though, if they weren't thinking about it and towards it before 2010, they had all this past season to do it and still couldn't come to a resolution in that time. I don't see that happening.

Lemme put to words what some in the Pro-Newton crowd seem unable to fathom regarding the Anti-Newton crowd:

- We don't hate him. In fact, we have no personal feelings about him at all. He's just another football player.

- We have no desire to see him fail or have tragedy befall him. Why should we? What would it benefit us?

- We don't care that he's black. In fact, there's a load of white guys most of us don't want either.

- We simply think, for football reasons, that he's not worth the Panthers taking him with the #1 overall pick.

It really is that simple.

Now if you want to argue that he is worth it, well and good, as long as you bring football logic to the discussion. When, instead, you throw out stuff like "you hate him", "you're racist" or "you don't care about winning" or any other such personal argument, you don't help your case.

In fact, the only thing you actually do accomplish by saying that stuff is to make yourselves look really stupid :frown2:

The truth is that if Newton is drafted here, those of us who were against it happening will stand behind the choice and hope that we were wrong. Nobody's leaving the fanbase in protest because they drafted Cam Newton, and no one's going to hope that he fails or gets hurt. Quite the opposite, we'll hope for his success because that's what'll be best for the team.

If he isn't drafted, then the vast majority of us won't really care what happens to him - good or bad - because he won't be a Panther.

And that's pretty much all there is to it. I'm not sure why some find that so difficult to understand :nonod:

So...shall we try this again?

LOL. Look at my post that was bull poo back then to try to make my point that is bull poo now. Why don't you actually do something to make people believe that rubbish instead of referencing us back to your own ghey post.

Tell me this guys. What happens if we draft Newton and he stinks? Will everybody who acknowledges that be called haters and racists then too?

If so, congratulations. You'll have successfully turned us into the Falcons board.

If he sucks, then he sucks. We move on to the next draft or talk about our next option at QB. Just like we are doing with Clausen/Moore.

If we draft AJ Green and he sucks, then he sucks.

If we trade down and pick up a couple players and they suck, then they suck.

Our team either takes the risk on upside and potential, or we sit there in a complacent stupor, unwilling to go for the big time player, not making progress towards a championship.

If it doesn't work out, you move on.

The problem I have, is that you're advocating the complacent stupor. Like the Arizona Cardinals.... they had a drafted QB that sucked. They got a stop gap in Warner. Maybe even a GOOD stop gap.

Problem is, we are not in the NFC West. And there aren't any Kurt Warners out there. We can NOT afford to take stop gaps like they did and pray we get into the play offs with a losing record. We're in the NFC South!! This division plays hardcore to win.

The pro Cam guys are instigators Scott, you do realize you won't get your point across to them don't you? They're just poking and poking and poking to try and make you flip. These guys aren't THAT stupid that they can't understand what you are trying to say, they just get a kick out of watching anti-camers squirm.

Actually, I think some of them really are that stupid, sadly :(

But as far as getting me to "flip" today, not likely :D

(take a look here if you want to see why)

Your amature posting techniques amuse me.

Your opinion matters to me about as much as your spelling

That post is meant for friends and people I respect. You don't qualify on either front.

It does tell me a lot about you that rather than say something positive about a real-life situation (the kind of thing that's, you know, bigger than football) you instead choose to relate back to a discussion on a football board. You could at least have been happy for me. Guess that was too much to ask, though.

Sad :nonod:

What you should learn from it is that there are way more important things in my life than who we pick at quarterback. That's why the notion so many have thrown around that I have some personal, emotional interest in this debate comes off as incredibly stupid once you know the whole story.

Or you can keep doing like you're doing. Doesn't really matter to me either way.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
