I'll pass, DT's or defensive players in general don't win Playoff games. At some point you've got to take a chance on hitting the homerun, with the 1st pick in this years draft now's as good a time as any. :)

Give the fans a reason to be excited, with good/above avg defensive production (especially considering how long we were on defense) and a defensive minded coach to improve us even further. I say you go after a player to improve what many try to sidestep as the NFL's 32nd overall offense. No defensive player we draft is going to help us offensively THAT is our biggest need. Space eaters can be found in later rounds. SF out :smash:

I could very easily see us picking Dareus, even after all this courting of Cam Newton.

I have my opinions on who they should pick, though even there I'm not really settled (back and forth between Peterson, Dareus at the moment; still think Fairley could be an option too).

As far as who they will pick, I'm not even gonna try and predict that, especially not this far out.

Fairley played a bigger role then Cam in the national championship....and Dareus is better than Fairley :)

True, I was not impressed with Cam in the national championship game at all...

The other thing Dareus has going for him is that he's not a one-year wonder like Cam, Fairley or Bowers.

I would if I felt like reading 157 mocks

Truth is, regardless of who the Panthers take, a significant portion of the fanbase will think they completely screwed up and should have picked someone else.

Over time, those factions may be proven wrong, or they could be proved right

(obviously, you wanna hope for the first option)

If we are going best player available it should be petersen...Dareus isn't really considered the top player by any means. Fairley is a one year wonder who has maturity issues and Newton is...well there is no use getting into that.

If we are going to take the player who could have the biggest impact I'd have to go with Newton. He could change this franchise for the next decade. Dareus, Petersen, Fairley nor anyone else could do that.

It depends on if you want to run a draw play on third and long and punt...or you want to drop back and throw up a prayer. What kind of man are you?

It could very well be Dareus, but you have to think about Fairley 2. It seems like everybody forgot about him. But trust me he want fall there far from Carolina list. I know I wouldnt mind us taking a QB but in April if Ron Rivera is really serious about having a good Defense he might just get his stud DT in Dareus or Fairley. But I kind of feel that Dareus will be the pick. He is the only DT that can have that opportunity to have that Suh impact. Great against the run and his pass rush aint have bad. Very strong and stout and could have a long Career.

Also Mr. Scot on Mcshay new Mock Draft he have the Carolina Panthers taking Marcell Dareus number 1 now.!

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
