OH. NO. Things Aren't Looking Good... Rivera: Too Much Blame On Clausen

Even for those of you that are not proponents of drafting a QB this year, the worst thing we could do is go in next season 'as-is'... I know he discussed the QB moves we could make before making this statement about Jimmy, but I don't like the way this is heading...

“I tried to listen to as many people and tried to figure out what had happened. Tried to watch as much tape and really take everything that was said to me, and evaluate it and decide what I believed. What I agreed with, what I disagreed with and draw my own conclusion,” Rivera said at the coaches' breakfast at the annual owners meetings.

“And I think he got too much of the blame. I think he shouldered too much of the responsibility. We have to – as I said before – continue to evaluate the process and see if there is somewhere that he fits for us. And we'll go through and see.”

well, I agree w/ Rivera......put the only people who shoulder more blame are named Fox/Richardson and he ain't gonna say that.

but this

continue to evaluate the process and see if there is somewhere that he fits for us. And we'll go through and see

doesn't sound like a Clausen endorsment from Rivera...

I don't think Clausen is as bad as what the 2010 season indicated. He did get more blame (a one Steve Smith dropped a bunch of catchable passes) than he deserved and shouldered too much responsibility.

That doesn't mean nor did Rivera say that means Clausen has been evaluated and seen as a starting QB in the NFL or even more importantly the franshise QB this team needs.

I don't think Clausen is the answer but he alone wasn't the reason the offense sucked last season either.

Rivera is 100% correct. The kid should have sat 1-2 years and developed in a system before seeing the field. Fox and his crew sucked, not only at coaching but decision making as well. They never should have put the kid out there.

I say sign/ trade for a vet that has a few years left, draft well and lets let the kid sit and see what happens. Trade out of #1 for sure.

I have never been a Clausen fan and do not think he is the future of the team but I have to agree with Riveria in that last years dismal offense was more than the QBs fault. There is a lot of blame to spread around.I think it starts with releasing Vincent and then the injuries. The previous year we were running all day to Vincents side. When the defenses realized we could not run it made it easier to make it hard for Moore and Clausen. We also released Moose, who was one of the better blocking WRs and Hoover. We had rookie wrs and no creativity in calling plays.

Carolina averaged 4.3 yards a carry which was 10th in the NFL.

Carolina was 13 in the NFL in rushing yards per game.

They did all that with a stacked box and the least threatening pass attack in the NFL.

Carolina could and did run the ball last year. They got off to the same slow start they did in 09 and 08. The only reason they weren't a top 5-7 ground attack was b/c there was zero pass threat.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
