F*ck it, 10k posts is enough, I'm outta here.

There's a time when you say to yourself, I've sunk too much time into something that's completely worthless at the end of the day.

Some of you may have been wondering why I haven't been posting at all for the past day and a half. The reason is simple: I've been debating as to whether I want to remain part of this community. After a LOT of thought, I've decided that it's better for me if I leave, for good. This will be my final post here on the Huddle.

Certain people here (Val, Dimbee, Zod, Scrum, PanthaSan, NC_Biscuit, Boo, Saltman, Panthro, a few others... you know who you are) have continued making "jokes" about me being gay or liking feet... this despite the fact that I have politely asked them not to, more than once.

Now, before you label me as humorless, I want you to understand that I do have a sense of humor about myself. I've been picked on here for being a geek, for being a virgin, for liking graphing calculators... and I was totally fine with all of that. However, I've made it clear that my sense of humor about myself does not extend into statements, joking or otherwise, concerning me being gay or liking feet. For the record, I am not gay (and you can take that "methinks you doth protest too much" crap and cram it up your ass sideways, TC), and any speculation about whether I am because of the decor of my condo is stereotyping at its worst. (Dimbee... I'm sure your gay brother would be proud of how you really seem to feel about gays, based on some of your posts.)

I've also been accused of having a double standard when it comes to this, given my repetitive jokes in the direction of Jester (concerning his sheep) and JR (concerning his sexual behavior). The difference is that these two fine individuals, for whom I have a lot of respect, have apparently consented to this sort of thing... I've never seen either of them protest when a joke is made at their expense, and I've never had a single negative thought towards either of these two guys. If either of them ever had said "hey, please don't joke about <x>", I would have stopped immediately... and I would have expected the same of anyone here when I did the same thing. I admit that my sense of humor about myself may not be as fully-developed as it is for other people... but I doubt that certain people here (Cooter, for example) would put up with someone making jokes about THEM being gay. (Even if I am wrong about this, it still doesn't excuse what's been done.)

So, I want you all to know WHY I am leaving... and I want to be very clear about this. It's because of the inconsiderate, immature behavior of assh*les like Dimbee and Val, who just can't leave well enough alone when someone politely asks them to stop doing something. Now, if they were anyone else here (Charlottenian, for example), I would do to them what I did to Charlottenian for a while: Set them on Ignore. Sadly, these two jackasses are moderators, and therefore they cannot be Ignored. Since I cannot Ignore them, and since they insist on continuing to behave in a manner which completely pisses me off, the only solution left is for me to take my leave of this site.

Before you think this is all negative, though, I want to say "farewell" to a few people:

Zod, JR, Jester, NH, Ms. Skyy, Livermush, Cooter, Monkeybutt, CosmoGirl (the only Huddler I've ever actually met, to my knowledge), Cyberjag, Mr. Scot [and Quak and Fox], Tweeder, Anavax, Ladyvamp, Alverez, GTG, Sunbunny, Squirrel, Dawg, Buddha, Duekster, Solorca, Cptx: I enjoyed hanging out with all of you, even if it was just online. (I'm sure I've forgotten some people. Forgive me, please.) Maybe I'll see some of you at the Panthers games... look for JASE 69. 001.gif

Charlottenian: Good luck with med school, but dude... stop boasting about your parents' house and cars and bidets. 002.gif

Alan Ford, KK, Delhommey, and Wedge: Get a clue, will you?

Val and Dimbee: F*ck you, assh*les. rock.gif

One final note: I came here from the Charlotte.com forums, which are heavily moderated... and found myself in a place that is almost totally UNmoderated. I think the Huddle would be a better place, one that I'd like to visit, if it was better moderated. Ms. Skyy is a good mod... she steps in and cools people down when a thread gets too hot. For that she has my thanks. Moderators are not supposed to alienate the people they're moderating.

So anyway... I've had a lot of fun here these past 7 months, but it's not fun anymore. I don't want to be here if it's not fun for me.

GO PANTHERS! jive.gif

    • Give me Mitchell Evans over T Sanders in this run heavy offense any day of the week.
    • What's up gents, the OGs remember me, the guy who single-handedly gave the Panthers the greatest uniform in history moniker. Not too long after that I got involved with Pro Football Focus (pre-Collinsworth acquisition) and ended up taking backseat here to preserve some objectivity. But from a distance I noticed a lot. After the end of the Cam era this place devolved into the most un-fun, petty, negative cesspool of whining and bitching that has ever graced the internet. The worst part of it all is that the level of discussion turned into the most ill-informed, hot-take, unnuanced crap, rife with people talking out of their posteriors as if they have any clue about what they are watching. Once you get into the professional side of the sport and actual film rooms, you start to understand there's an absurd number of moving parts to pretty much every snap and the details you are privy to are truly only half the picture. The absolute most important thing I learned from being part of professional level football analysis is that quarterbacking is literally the most intricate and difficult position in all of professional sports, and that the NFL itself is struggling to develop any workable model that allows them to understand what makes one succeed vs what makes one fail. Because of this paradox it has also made the quarterback position itself grossly overvalued from a fan and media standpoint, creating an absurd fixation on the results delivered by a single player who has to rely on the contributions of everyone around them. This also drives the dreaded inflation of QB salaries that inevitably cause even elite teams to lose key talent all to pour cash into the one player supposed to be able to single-handedly elevate the entire team (and defense and special teams and coaching and ownership by some mysterious proxy), yet without those same players even talented teams can wander the wilderness searching for the right guy to take advantage of their talent window. The discussions the last few years around Bryce has personified this insanity, as this board has devolved into some sort of electronic civil war between the hyperbolic Young supporters and the vitriolic Bryce haters. The reality, like practically everything in this world, is somewhere in the middle. He has traits that can absolutely elevate a team with creativity, play recognition, off-arm angle throws, mental toughness, etc. He's also physically limited, with mostly "good-enough" qualities for most situations that a professional quarterback is asked to do, and will never be an overpowering physical force like pre-injury Cam. But "good-enough" physicality represents a large majority of championship-winning quarterbacks, even in the modern era. There's a reason the corpse of Peyton Manning took the chip from elite physical specimen Cam, because the team surrounding him was talented enough to get him there, while we all know Cam was the driving force of that 2015 team. That's no knock on him, that's just how the game of football tends to work: the more complete team usually wins. The summary is this: if this team lives or dies solely on the performance of its quarterback, then it is absolutely a paper tiger even if he plays brilliantly week in and out. There are no superheroes in this sport, there are only conduits that proxy the collective efforts of much of the team around them. And no one alive can tell you how the position is played perfectly, it's all a confluence of circumstance and what unique collection of traits each player brings to the position, which can never be truly recreated season after season, even for the same player on the same team. If this place remains a raging hellscape of idiotic hot takes I will happily remove myself again and do something more productive for yet another decade, but maybe's there hope that we can all get back to the old adage, and keep pounding.
