Lmao the players have their wives crying for them now.

That is also their choice. Vets, Firefighters, Cops don't get drafted so they are aware of the dangers associated. FYI Cops and Firemen have huge unions that look out for them just like the players.

I have a friend that was a fire chief. He has issues with high levels of toxic metals in his body from all those fires at factories, etc. He belonged to no union. Not all areas have unions. I do understand what you are saying, it is they're choice to do the job they do.

Stroupe-a-loop is dead on and you are completely dead off.

Funny how many die hard capitalists hate players for trying to make as much money as they can.

No, I think I'm pretty much dead on.

Jackofalltrades made a point that other industries and services have much harder physical tolls, make less money, and get fewer benefits, and you shot back by saying:

"Well, that's their choice, they have to live with it."

Yeah, it is. But here's where your NOT getting his point. These other workers and servicemen AREN'T bitching about it as a collective whole. The NFL players are, and now their wives are too.

Sheesh.

Well it is their choice. Comparing what vet's go through is nothing but a ploy to pull at our heart strings. They couldn't be further from being similiar.

They know the risks and the rewards. They all do.

But hey take a 20% pay cut and come into work on saturdays.

Each man will walk away thinking that if his knees are to give out, hopefully it happens in the next five years before his health coverage expires. And if he has to cover himself with money from his own pocket, he will hope it doesn’t break him. Insurance companies aren’t looking to cover the ten-year veteran pro football player with the pounding migraines and ALS or severe depression that could be lurking just around the corner.

She must have forgotten about the nation's new healthcare law kicking in later this decade. He can't be denied coverage

Hate to be Captain Obvious here, but what do you expect a "gold digger" to say? She is a little past her prime so jumping on a MLB or NBA athlete is kind of out of the question! She is just now standing in the welfare line now that her attributes have grown a little to old.................Im sorry, Im going to hell for that observation

Until the military gets million dollar contracts for deployments, patrols, combat, rescue ops, etc, then I have no sympathy. These guys peruse glory and riches, or men and women in uniform peruse freedom for us and others. How many NFL vets are sporting prosthetic limbs because theirs was blown off on foreign soil for little more than minimum wage?

What about firefighters, cops and medics who go go into highly dangerous situations everyday, not just on Sundays to the benefit of others?

I'm not admonishing the owners either, but this is what's wrong with professional sports and our culture as a whole.

Again, this sensational type of argument is easy to get people galvanized about, but the pretty glaring difference is that one is a service and one is entertainment. People willingly shell out, as a whole, billions of dollars every year to watch football. People don't pay to watch the military. It's not really a comparable argument.

Rather than get wrapped up in the minutia of the analogy, I think it best to recognize the main thrust of his point that there are far more worthy people to feel sorry for as opposed to NFL veterans

Fine. But it's a pretty common argument (TEACHERS SHOULD MAKE MORE MONEY THAN BASKETBALL PLAYERS!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!) that doesn't aptly compare the situation at hand here.

The players don't want to take a pay cut just for the sake of taking one, especially if they're asked to work more than before. Not sure why there's so much hatred on this board towards them for that.

A lot of it probably stems from jealousy or a poor understanding of the situation IMO.

I don't think anyone argued that. Because if that was his point I would have agreed and probably had another slice of cake.

I think practically everyone argued that there are far better people to feel a plight for than NFL vets... are you really that obtuse?

    • Umm yeah. When did he get it done at the right time? I seem to remember a 4-6 finish and needing Atlanta to win our way into the playoffs but whatever.
    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
