On The Beat: Panthers No.1; Joseph Person Prediction

Copied from Nawrocki's 2010 Draft Guide...

Has a sense of entitlement, having attended private schools, worked with private QB coaches and being sheltered by his family, who bought a house on campus so his brothers had a place to stay for every game. Arrogant-can come off as having all the answers and struggle to win a locker room. Still immature. Comes across as overly staged, scripted and disingenuous in interviews and does not have the type of presence desired in the face of a franchise.

Guess who :sosp:

There are huge variances of opinion on draft prospects pretty much every year, and contentious debates about who's best are nothing new.

We're only more conscious of it this year because we have the number one pick. People thinking the level of divergence on Newton is something new probably just haven't been paying attention as closely before.

(which is not that shocking; very few people are hardcore draftniks)

The debate is normal...no argument there. The part I find amazing (getting back to Newton), is we have seen some commentators talk about how he is loved by his teammates and is a hard worker, while at least 1, cited above, indicates he is a horrible teammate with bad work habits.

That's a pretty big difference. The only thing I could speculate on to explain the disparity is, maybe the bad teammate thing was from when he was at Florida, and the better stuff is from Auburn. That's just a guess, of course, but the difference in opinion on this one aspect is fascinating.

The difference is a lot of that is pure media speculation. Every time I have seen or heard an actual teammate or coach of Cam's asked about it, they always have his back on these issues.

I mean, the guy is a bit of a diva. So what? So is Tom Brady.

I trust Hurney and Rivera to be able to determine if this stuff is true. Rivera is a hard-nosed genuine type of guy; a no-bullshit type of coach. He'll be able to determine if these issues have any truth to them or not.

I don't know whether the talk of him being a bad teammate is true or not, nor do I care. But, when have you ever heard a college teammate or coach badmouth a player prior to the draft. The last time I can remember one saying anything remotely negative, was when Pete Carrol said that Sanchez have come back for another year.

People (on here) say Clausen was a bad teammate this year, but everyone involved with ND had nothing but glowing remarks when asked about him last year.

What you are saying is right, I am just pointing out that it can go both ways.. This report, and others like it, may be unfounded bullpoo. But, they could also be indicative of things that teams and scouts are hearing about him behind the scenes. This could be the reason that Cam has been slipping in the mock drafts.
