lol Yeah I was like, who the hell is this guy? I don't mind Cam though (OK, I do, but I mean it's not a bad prediction), I think Gantt would've made the same pick. It sure beats the mocks from Kiper, McShay etc.

Pro Football Weekly has their latest mock out now. It's the first one I've seen that has us taking A J Green.

CSN says that in their 2011 draft guide, PFW draftnik Nolan Nawrocki rips Newton a new one (link)

For the record, I like Nawrocki well enough, but he's not on the level of his predecessor, the late Joel Buchsbaum (nobody is) and I disagree about A J Green.

Wow, those are some strong words regarding personality issues. If these were true, no one would touch him before the late rounds.

Given the amount of interest shown in Newton by teams in the top 10, and given the investigative resources available to teams currently, I find the comments highly suspect.

Unless of course people choose to believe that all interest in Newton is a ruse, and that is difficult to believe as well.

I don't believe it's a ruse. i also don't believe it's as set in stone as some like to think, though.

When Hurney talks about going through the full process before making a decision, he means it. I think Rivera does too.

As to Nawrocki, I've seen him rip some prospects pretty hard before, but can't recall off the top of my head him ripping one as highly regarded and hitting them this hard. Now I'm curious. I'm gonna have to pull out my 2010 PFW Guide and see what he said about some of last year's QB prospects.

I am just wondering...has there ever been this varied a divergence of opinion on a top prospect's personality? Not talking about the laptop stuff or the NCAA stuff, but about how he is perceived by his teammates, his work habits, etc.

Anyone remember a similar case?

There are huge variances of opinion on draft prospects pretty much every year, and contentious debates about who's best are nothing new.

We're only more conscious of it this year because we have the number one pick. People thinking the level of divergence on Newton is something new probably just haven't been paying attention as closely before.

(which is not that shocking; very few people are hardcore draftniks)

    • D Carr must have really disliked the saints to wait and do this announcement after the draft has passed if he made this call a few weeks before the draft sure they would have approached it and the offseason differently.  oh well will be interesting to see how their qbs perform.  would love to see them roll with Thill and just make the whole offense towards his skillset.  Although sadly would be only playing in about half the games with how often he gets injured.
    • I have to say it's quite fascinating seeing you pivot from months and months of wailing and agonizing about threads derailing into Bryce Young slingfests only for you to turn around and do the same thing. And just for the record. Nobody in life ever attained wisdom and clarity from mistakes by having people blindly fawn over them and tell them they are above reproach and incapable of making mistakes. Our front office is just as human as we are. And based on the fact that front offices across the league outside of a handful of teams change on a fairly regular basis it's safe to say they are certainly no more infallible than the average Joe even though they possess significantly more knowledge usually. If you want a utopia where all you do is shine shoes for anyone associated with the Panthers you go right on ahead and create yourself a new community sir. More power to you.
    • I trust Morgan when it comes to LBs so I think Wallace will do well.
