NFL Exec.: Cam Would Be Clear-Cut #1, If He Were White (And Other Valuable Nuggets)

I haven't seen any positive reviews of any prospect of that intensity. I don't know where such intense criticism can come from.

If it's that bad then how can he even be considered a top 10 guy? By the PFW account he sounds like a creepy devilish character that tells you a riddle and steals your first born child if don't answer correctly.

How can this man publish this kind of information from 2nd hand accounts? This negative stuff you better be damn sure it's reliable. Does the entire NFL just keep mum on the bad opinions to keep the draft hype high?

It's so over the top I can't trust it.

That is my problem with it as well. Just to over the top. And it seems to contradict what you are hearing from guys like Mayock, Brandt, Softi, and some guy named Hurney.

But regardless whether it is accurate or not just seems over the top considering he had never met the guy.

But whatev.

Kurt Warner doesn't think Newton is worth the 1st pick, says his game just doesn't translate to NFL.

Well, I'm sure Kurt thought his own game translated to the NFL when he came out and all the talking heads thought it didn't... Luckily, Kurt didn't let that bother him too much.

Is this all going to be irrellavant when the Panthers pick Cam at #1?? I mean come on with this topic. It only exist because people are creating it. If it is determined by Hurney, Rivera, etc that Cam Newton can be a franchise QB - he IS going to be picked #1. It is for that reason and that reason only why he will or wont. The people making the decisions in the Panthers organization and even others do not care what color any player is.

Kudos to the exec for saying it. I just wish he'd have come out the closet.

Truth about racism and racial bias against blacks (when speaking to a white audience) seems better served from a white man.

To all you guys talking poo about Warren Moon, have you lost respect for this white guy like you did Moon? Is this white NFL executive a racist for saying this.

Finally someone who gets it.

Yeah, to bad Kurt Warner had a successful career and played in a few superbowls. Yeah, his opinion about successful QB's must not be as good as yours

The only people that are making this about skin color are the racists, for better or worse. *shrugs*

That is an undeniable truth.

Your statement lost me a little. It would have made more sense, and been more accurate if you had said:

The people that are making this only about skin color are the racists.

The problem is that I don't believe that anyone has necessarily made this only about skin color, and racism and/or racial bias is not as simple as to be encapsulated in one simplistic phrase. Racism is just one of the dynamics that we, as Americans (and others), sometimes have to take into account when dealing with not only normal life, but high profile decisions like this one. Denying others' genuine feelings about presumed racism out of hand, being oblivious to it, feigning ignorance, or just labeling someone without giving the subject its due diligence is perhaps the most insidious part of this situation. Moreover, now people are making a mockery of the whole situation by throwing words around (e.g. racism, racist) just willy nilly which is extremely unproductive when not just dealing with supposed or presumed racism, but real racism.

Just because you address what you believe may be racism (in and of itself), doesn't make you a racist.

What does Kurt Warner know about the draft though? He didn't even participate in one. Besides that, his argument is flawed. No running QB has ever won the Superbowl, really? There have only been a few of them in the history of the league, and one of them would have had to be on a kick ass team to win a Superbowl, so the odds were stacked heavily against them.

    • Why are you so fixated on yards? Even if yards were a good judge of QB play, his low yardage totals in some of those games were partly a function of drops (looking at you Xavier Leggette…).  I’m not advocating that Bryce was elite for the last half of last year, but the eye test certainly supported high level QB play for large stretches. He made a lot of high difficulty, put it on the money/drop in the bucket throws. He converted on 3rd and 4th down, kept drives moving, and put the team in position to win games. And it’s not on him that the defense blew it late after he led game tying drives, Leggette dropped a game winning TD, or Chuba fumbled the ball in OT. We could have finished the season close to .500 with wins against 3 playoff teams including KC and Philly during that stretch largely due to Bryce’s play.    Has he sustained this level of play long enough to deserve an higher ranking? No. But for judging based in that stretch alone, he would. But whether he can perform more consistently at that level or build on that, and thus earns a higher ranking, remains to be seen.
    • Totally agree with you, if we had invested in drafting a corner or two I wouldn’t even ponder adding Ramsey. But, to be honest we legit added nobody to our corner room this offseason we have nobody worth developing. Even if Chau Smith Wade is better then what I think, he is the only guy we have invested draft capital into outside of our starters.
    • Look at his snap counts, your telling me that his entire college and pro football career every coach he has had has misused him? No offense but I don’t think you understand the role of a slot corner. Mike Jackson is the literal definition of an outside zone corner, he would be totally inept as a slot corner. Ala why he has been an outside corner his entire career.
