PFW: Carolina seeks second-round pick By Nolan Nawrocki

Do you actually have any idea how much research they did, or is your assumption that they didn't do enough based on the fact that they had a negative assessment of a guy you like?

Based on logistics and what he himself on his conference call.

I would try to balance those comments with positive comments we've all heard about Cam as a person, if for no other reason then to make sure people understood I was being objective and fair.

Know how I know you didn't read the whole profile? :D

Positives: Very well-built with big deltoids and a strapping physique. Excellent arm strength — can make difficult throws off-balance while on the move and air out the deep ball, hitting receivers in stride 50 yards downfield. Throws with velocity. Composed in pressure situations and found ways to come through in the clutch. Big, strong, physical runner. Pounds defenders and can push a pile — almost always falls forward. Smooth-striding, fluid-moving athlete. Highly competitive and productive against top Southeastern Conference competition — rose to the occasion against Alabama and Oregon on the biggest of stages. Very savvy — confident, charming and charismatic and can light up a room. Highly competitive and plays with passion.

I can't blame you too much since one portion of the 'negatives section is pretty much all anybody wants to talk about. People act like the whole thing did nothing but knock him.

All PFW previews include positives, negatives, and a summary.

The magazine will interview different prospects as part of their coverage. For the preview though? Pretty sure they don't interview anybody directly.

Ya gotta remember, they don't have any reason to give a flaming crap what happens to any of these kids. Their job is to research and write an objective review. Whether the prospects or their people like it or not isn't really relevant.

And what if Cam refused the interview? He has refused a ton of interviews already by football places after the disastrous Icon/Entertainer stuff. Hell, wasn't that actually his last interview that was not directly related to the combine or pro day?

not saying it was a big deal. but he is trying to sale papers. and yes i believe so mav.

I know I've read in a few places that Newton has declined to give an interview (most recently on PFT) so I would not be surprised if he also denied PFW even if they did ask... but if he was to print "I tried to interview Cam but I couldn't!" he'd look like a bitter little whiner.

This is actually what makes this thing so idiotic. How can you say he has a fake smile, and then, in the same breath, say he has a great personality and lights up a room? It can't be both.

Because different people have different feelings about him.

So two people wrote this? Otherwise, it's just one guy contradicting himself, which makes him look like a fool. And don't tell me about sources...he either believes one source or the other about Newton's personality. You can't have it both ways.

If I interviewed two different people with two different opinions and told you what both of them said, would I be contradicting myself?

If you read each of the sentences in a preview prefaced with the words "some people think" you'd have an accurate understanding of how these previews work.

(they can't write it out that way in the book, of course; it'd be tedious)

Actually, in this case I did read the whole thing and I still don't think those comments balance out the excessive negativity.

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one and that's okay, it comes down to a matter of opinion.

He couldn't find a third person to break the tie? The fact remains, both of those opinions can't be true. He's either an asshole with a fake smile, or he's a charming guy who lights up a room. It can't be both, unless Cam Newton is actually Cybil.

    • I hope not. 3rd-5th round QB's are historically awful. Most of the time that team is just drafting another QB in the first the following year. Look at the Saints, if they continue to suck this year they are just taking a QB. And if they do they just threw away a 2nd round pick that they just drafted. We did the same poo with Clausen, Greer, Pike, that guy we drafted a few years ago who is so irrelevant I forgot his name...  Just take a 1st round QB if Bryce isn't the answer and be prepared to live with it
    • This reminds me on Madden where you create an alternate uniform and the pre-recorded voice overs talk about how hideous your uniform looks. 🤣
    • There are people on this forum that just want to see a lot of passing yards....number go up. That's all it is, really. They are thirsting for a 350-400 yard game. The idea that Jameis Winston is going to come in and play like a star and lead us to wins is ludacris. He's the 3rd fuging string for a 2-5 team and has played horrible for years now. Sure, passing numbers will go up but you'll also get a lot of dumb plays, pick 6's, and incompletions en route to a frustrating bad offensive performance, just in a different way. I think these people are yearning for another Delhomme situation, and the odds of that happening are very very slim. It's way more likely Howell or Jameis comes in and looks like Jack Plummer or Andy Dalton did in the preseason. There just isn't that much good quarterbacking in this league right now. And if we draft another QB in the first round, there is a good chance they bust. It's not a guaranteed carrot. The reality is, as mediocre as Bryce has been, the risk of bringing someone else in in-season and releasing Bryce becuase you aren't happy with his current performance is staggeringly high. Don't want to re-up his contract and search for a solution in the offseason? Sure, I'm on board. Bryce hasn't been good enough to warrant a second contract. But It is very. very unlikely that bringing someone else in midseason is going to give this team more wins.
