Kiper: Panthers Should Trade Down

No sh*t. Who the hell does he think we're going to find that wants the pick? If we should trade down, why would anyone else want the pick?

Following that assumption, why would anyone ever trade down in any draft?

Anyway, I never said we should trade down, I think we should take a shot with Newton. And I agree with CN that if we do trade down we ought not to drop very far.

I simply meant Newton could possibly motivate teams with high picks to make attractive offers, and he's probably the only player in this draft who could do that.

Kiper has a personal interest in hoping Clausen does better. He is buddies with Clausen's agent and spent all of last offseason hyping the Jimmy as the most pro-ready QB in the draft. LOL Kiper.

every body is like trade down trade down.... If a jackass like kiper knows there is nothing worth picking at number 1 then what chance do the panthers have against people who really know what the're doing?

Don't you remember? Hurney is the evil genius who was crafty enough to fool Belichek and the Patriots into trading this years 2nd round pick for Armanti Edwards.

Kiper has several valid points in his discussion of Clausen.

He was put in the absolute worst possible situation in Carolina last season. We had rookie WR's, a lame duck coach who had zero interest in having a rookie QB, the worst OC and playcalling in the league. Fox did NOTHING to try and work an offense aroudn Clausen (like the Rams did with Bradford). He was more interested in sticking it to Richardson on his way out the door.

How much of the failures at QB last season were due to Clausen's ability and how much were due to all of the other factors? That is the question.

And, none of us can realistically answer it. Yet, all of the Cam supporters want to toss a rookie QB in the trash who was forced into action before he was ready...had God Awful Coaching...etc. Yet, you want to take Cam and park him on the bench to learn....an idea that you in no way afforded Calusen.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
