There is only one discussion I'd like to raise..

To those who want Clausen cut, released, bagged and deported, etc..

You get 1 week to run the Panther Organization and one decision to make: What to do with Clausen?

I see a lot of you say Clausen should get released in some fashion.. so when you cut Clausen, what options do you have to fill that backup role?

you have 3 roster spots..

Well, there is a huge difference between looking for QBs week 9 of a season......and before a season starts.

New HCs generally move on from the QB roster leftover very quickly.

I think Rivera drafts Cam and brings in a vet....that leaves 1 spot up for real competition.

If I were Rivera I would want my 3rd spot to be filled by a young guy who fits what my offense asks of a QB. I would bring in Matt Moore type QBs to compete with Jimmy and Pike. Best man gets the job. I don't see Clausen beating out Moore caliber QBs (and there are plenty to be found prior to the start of a season by one means or another).

Clausen doesn't appear to fit what Chud claims to be about......and he looked like a train wreck (one of the worst rookie performances in 20 years). Why waste a needed spot with a QB who doesn't fit the style of offense you run?

If Jerry brought in a WCO coach....my opinion on Jimmy would be different.

3 Jobs for Clausen.

First would be to use his arm to throw 1's for Cam at the strip club. Designated Rain Artist or something along those lines.

Second job would be to wear Cam's jewelry during practice and on game days. Keep his ice warm so to speak.

Third and most important job imo is to hold the clipboard and not step on to field unless it's garbage time. Or unless Cam needs some gatorade.

Draft Cam newton and sign Marc Bulger

Let Moore and Clausen fight for the 3rd spot

I would feel good about that situation..

the only point I was trying to make is to those who are blindly going around thinking Clausen needed cut after the 10th reg season game.. totally ignoring all other factors.

What about those of us that thought he should be cut before camp last season?

I agree it would be silly at this point even though i don't see him starting anytime soon.

    • This is gonna be longest six weeks ever
    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
