Cam will start in 2011 if drafted

If Cam is drafted #1 overall, recent history shows he will start in 2011 at some point.

In the past 10 NFL drafts, 25 QBs have been drafted in round 1.

21 of those 25 QBs started as rookies.

The 4 QBs who did not start as rookies, all had starting QBs that either had a Pro Bowl season that year or had previously been to the Pro Bowl multiple times. (Carolina doesn't have a former Pro Bowler or a QB on pace to reach it this upcoming season on the roster).

So if we draft Cam.....you gotta be ready for the Cam era to start at some point in 2011.

Rivera doesn't like starting QBs early.

neither did those 21 other coaches most likely.....but they had to

where is Rivera's pro bowler? b/c history shows that is what he would need to avoid it

It depends how quickly he makes the transition. Rivera isn't going to let him get thrown out there if he isn't ready. It also depends on who Clausen/moore/whoever does when they start.

if we're in playoff contention, he's not going to bench whoever it is for Newton... He'll keep letting him learn on the sidelines.

On the other hand, if he feels he's ready and at mid season thinks aren't looking promising, I think we'll all get a chance to taste the Cammy Cam Juice.

He will start when Rivera feels like he is ready. Hopefully that would be sooner rather than later.

yes, and I agree. But coaches with 1st round draft picks at QB.....get there QBs ready at some point to get real reps for them as rookies.

I think Moore is gone. I still think with an investment like Cam you bring in a real vet....Moore would just take Clausen's spot. Vet, Cam, Clausen...means that Rivera will have Cam ready at some point b/c Carolina likely can't make a playoff run with a washed up vet in the NFCS.

given who is available and who might want to come here, Moore may be the best bet we have for a "real veteran," assuming we want someone actually capable of playing QB.

Moore is too green to be the veteran aid to Cam though....Moore could still use that. You can always find a washed up guy to take some reps to start a season knowing he would lose the job. Lots of older guys are willing to take a paycheck for that type gig. Carolina is built for a true vet to have life be fairly easy pending he isn't horrific.

The whole we need a vet to mentor stuff is bullpoo IMO. Not only do they not mentor but vets still think they should be starters.

You would be pissed if your employer came to you and said, "Hey train this guy for a year so we can fire you please"

I've kind of come around to thinking Moore might be the best bet as well.

He wouldn't have the pressure of being "the guy", but he is still young enough to want to show the rest of the league what he can do.

Now, as to what you do with Jimmy, IDK. Trade to a WCO team maybe?

Okay, then go back and look at the last 25 QBs drafted in the first round........teams don't think it is bullpoo to have a legit vet on a roster.

If I made NFL money to mentor a rookie late in my career(be in the film room etc.)......I would not be insulted. Happens all the time.

    • fuging Christ dude this isnt hard.  Like at all.  I get you simping for this poo team is your thing but sometimes you have to look at reality.   Even removing his bum knee from the equation, none of this made sense.  He is 31.  He has been paid handsomely for his service here.  He was currently under contract for this season.  Why in the holy fug did anything have to be done 2 weeks before the season started.   The people for this move, in this thread are saying A) He deserved it (this is the nfl it doesnt work like that  B) It frees up cap space (then why in the fug didnt we do this in Feb or C) You logic (We are getting a deal at 53 million guaranteed for the next 3 years.   You realize with this deal we cannot cut or trade his ass for 3 years.  You understand this right?   So in my opinion we should have let this ride into the offseason and go from there, what he is going to threaten to walk, big fuging deal he would be 32 on a chronically bad knee, what other moronic franchise is going to give him 40 million up front?  It wasnt going to happen.   And you are acting like its impossible to replace a 32 year old RT with a bum knee.  Just go and draft someone, move Icky to RT.  There are tons of options instead of extending this dude 2 weeks before the fuging season.  The truth is Morgan and the shitheads in the FO fell for this dudes crying act and got all sentimental and shelled out another ext.  We are a poverty ass franchise that doesnt act professionally
    • Amazing what the prospect of being traded to Carolina will do for contract negotiations.
    • 5 Im glad football is back but after the embarrassment that was the browns pre season game where our starting D made Sanders look like a serviceable NFL QB, I lost hope again for a successful Panthers campaign this year.  I do hope I’m wrong!
