Matt Moore Supporters ...Quick Question

So is this just a straight up comparison of the two? Obviously Cam is much more athletic... Moore's main positive would be his NFL experience.

Well there has to be a reason why people would prefer one over the other. Is the only reason experience?

how can you preface "nfl experience" with "only"?

it's a big deal

Camp will prove who has the chops. No sense in trying to guess which parts to trade from one to another or why one will not measure up to the other in spite of this opinion or that statistic.

I know people around here are not as sold on Cam as much as others and those same people are also very concerned about the QB position. If Cam is a Panther there is definitely the possibility for a huge face lift to our offense which would satisfy lots of people. Unfortunately there is also going to be the same unreasonable expectations that were placed on Claussen, Weinke, etc. when they were thrown to the wolves. At that point it will be impossible to determine what he is failing at or excelling in as everyone will have their own ideas and "expert" analysis.

If you like the guy, cool. If you don't, that's cool too. The question is if you like him as the number one overall pick in an offense everyone is going to be learning with coaches everyone is going to be warming to. Forget what we have/had at that position in the past. Can you see Newton as a Panther and gelling with what we have in the locker room?

The pro-con list is so even I am indifferent about him and I am glad the decision is not mine to make.

Who prefers who? I don't know that I would prefer either... I haven't seen Cam play at the NFL level and Moore has been mediocre at best... was that a product of the coach/system/o-line? Probably some...

I don't think it's really a valid comparison though... QB wise I would say that Cam will be better mainly because he's the more athletic of the two, HOWEVER, this has nothing at all to do with the draft imo... because you have to factor in whether or not Cam (or any other QB for that matter) is worth the #1 overall pick.

IOW, is picking a QB at #1 going to make enough of a difference over what we have now as opposed to picking a better player at another position that will be more dominant at that position.

since when did wanting to bring Moore to camp mean we "prefer him" to Cam Newton? Not that I want to draft a QB, but no matter who we draft we'll want a good backup who has proven he can win games when a starter is injured. if nothing else, Moore has done that.

I also like Moore's perseverance, but it's hard to underrate his experience on a roster of QBs that is severely inexperienced. We've already heard how unlikely it is for us to get any of the bigger name vets out there.

I think that most quarterbacks in the league could benefit from Newton's athleticism. Of course, Newton could benefit from a lot of quarterbacks in this league too.

    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
    • I said this ALL last season and will say it again this year. Our record means diddly squat this year, I don't care if we have 0 wins or 17 wins, I only care about one thing and one thing only. Bryce proves without a shadow of a doubt that he IS or ISN'T our long term solution at QB. It's the only thing that matters for the same reason it sucks that this is the same thing as last year.  This needs to be determined, and if they can't determine it, then it's still telling the team the answer, just not the one they want to hear. As right now we're in the ultimate QB purgatory, a position that dooms franchises for years.  Just look at a team like the Cardinals, who extended a better QB and it still screwed them over and haven't had a contending team in a long time. People get too caught up on wins and losses when evaluating players, particularly QBs.  When people look at the final record and use that as a reason to want to extend a QB or not is just a fools errand.  If we had lost 2-3 more games last year because we didn't make a last second FG, I genuinely wonder if we would have just moved on from Bryce this offseason (like we should have been doing anyways IMHO).
