Gabbert has great memory..

Go watch Gruden's QB camp with Gabbert... then tell me Mayock isn't blowing smoke.

Mayock calls it like he see's it. He has a reputation to protect. He is widely seen around the league as the best analyst on TV when it comes to film dedication, etc.

Nebrasksa/Texas Tech

oh noes, a quarterback who had bad games in college, unleash the hounds! he can't do anything ahhh get rid of him !!!

He had good games against good opponents, too.

Nobody is saying he had a better college season than Cam Newton.

did you even WATCH the clip?? He was concerned about Gabbert's explosiveness compared to arguably the best quarterback in the game. He wasn't saying "your footwork is horrible!" he was saying, "You've shown you can take snaps under center, now I want to see you use your explosive athleticism in the way I know you can, 'cause look at what Manning can do when getting away from center."

Yeah, I watched every minute of it.

FF to 2:08:

Gruden: "What you got a little left knee crouched below the right. Left foot back behind the right."

That was was a ding on footwork from under center. The same arguments against Newton... cept Gabbert really does have a problem.

And you accuse people who don't like Cam Newton of overblowing issues, holy crap lol.

Nobody says Gabbert's footwork *is perfect," but you are blowing what he said out of proportion. He was trying to point out how Gabbert can get more explosiveness. His footwork is developed enough he can actually refine it for more power now.

That was commentary, not criticism. He also said "size 16 shoes...hat on backwards...". All just observations.

Gruden's criticism didn't start till after he pulled away. He felt it wasn't quick enough.

Marriucci also made note of the fact that he uses a staggered stance as opposed to both feet side by side. It's a different approach and considered a positive because it allows for guys to step back quicker. But in this case, Gabbert didn't. Hence the complaint.

Footwork is a major component of under-center explosiveness. If you're tripping over yourself, or not picking up your feet, you aren't going to get where you need to be to play the ball.

And what part of "Take all the arguments against Newton, and apply them to Gabbert, except he didn't execute" do you not understand?

I've been talking about execution. Something Gabbert lacked that cost his team games.

gabbert aint going to be the pick so EH....so i dont really care how great his memory is

Pretty much this.

But I'm over having read thread after thread of Newton haters pump this dude up, when there are serious issues with him.

Gabbert is the The Golden Calf of Bristol of this draft. Not Newton.

No. Gabbert's 'steps' were all correct, i.e., footwork. The speed at which he can do the steps can be increased.

    • Whether it's consistently seeing the field his arm talent his mechanics it all points to a limited player that needs virtually everything to go right in order to possibly begin to overachieve or play at an elite level. Some people are willing to accept average at best but that's not what we're here for. This is a business.
    • Last year folks were gaslighting that Bryce was the best deep passer in the NFL despite not ever making plays downfield  NOW, he has A+++++++ arm strength one notch down from Brett Favre S Tier arm strength?  And people complain people are Bryce “haters” for arguing against all this type wildness lol.
    • I looked at him and his arm and his footwork, before he was drafted.  It was clear then it is clear now. He doesn’t have an arm that can flick a ball down the field using only the arm.  I don’t see his arm as good by NFL standards. I see it as something he must overcome. So I quibble with the characterization.  What I completely agree with is if he does not do his mechanics and footwork right his velocity and accuracy suffers.  If he is diligent and adheres to proper execution, yeah he can make do with his arm.  That sort of is what it is at this point.  Another aspect of it is he needs to use maximum effort to go downfield or to really drive a ball with any kind of heat. That (max effort) hinders accuracy. I have talked about this before.  He is at a disadvantage having to max exert compared to a guy that can use a very repeatable easier throwing motion.  Up to him if he can proof the pudding and hang with the big dogs.
