Bengals and Bills both passing on Gabbert? That'd be interesting.

Yeah, I can't see the Bills passing on Gabbert either. But then again, maybe they are higher on one of the 2nd round guys (Dalton, Ponder, etc.).

this seems to be common in most of the mocks over the last week or so - gabbert going to arizona or lower.

Miami drafting Ingram in this mock is what really stands out. If they were to spend a high pick on a young promising RB, that should theoretically skew DLo back to our side, right???

likewise, there has been a lot of discussion around ingram to miami.

not saying either is right, just saying they seem to be common opionions from what i've observed.

What do you guys think of drafting Nate Irving, LB NC State if he is available in round 4 or 5? I know we have a pretty solid LB core, but our guys seem to get injured often and it'd be nice to add some depth. I think this guy is a beast and could develop into a solid player.

(I know this is a little off-topic and random, but I didn't want to start another thread just for this question)

Also, many #1 picks are signed before hand as to make the team picking them more comfortable about the money. If we do not here any kind of agreement or signing before draft day, expect Newton not to be the pick.

Why would you do that if you expect a rookie cap. You won't sign him unless there is no cap and that may not be decided for months,

Panthers.com profiled him a little on video when they went to the Senior Bowl.

Linebacker is kind of a stacked position for us, but then Anderson's a free agent (and could be a one year wonder) and Davis is injured.

Admittedly, I am a State homer, but I think whoever gets Irving is going to get the steal of the draft. He is an absolute beast in the run game and has a nose for the ball. He can be a little stiff in coverage, but his pass rush ability more than makes up for that IMO.

Keep the Predator at home in Carolina!

I can see it happening. The Bills think that Fitzpatrick is good enough to win a superbowl for them, whether you agree with that or not is something else, but you don't need to grab a QB if you believe you already got a good one. The Bengals are just stubborn as hell. There's only so many days left until the draft, those fugers are just gonna be firm on the Palmer situation and draft another position. Miller at 3 and Green at 4 imo.

    • Jake in his prime was a gutsy QB. But just like with even someone like Cam. Father time is undefeated. It's very unfortunate we have a guy who is only 24 years old that has an equivalent arm to that. Absolutely blows my mind that our brain trust lacked the basic common sense to value arm talent when making a massive trade with ramifications for years to come. Unforgivable incompetence.
    • Jake, to me, will always hold a special place in my heart.  I really feel like for his era, he deserved way more love than he got, and should’ve had more than his one Pro Bowl.  He was a gamer with an underrated rocket arm. but let me tell you, after his Tommy John surgery, when he came back, I can’t remember who it was against, but it think it was a division game, he threw a ball that was supposed to be a throw away, as I think he was under pressure, and that poo floated forever and died right at the boundary where a defender ran over and picked it off.  One of the worst throws I ever saw.  His arm just wasn’t the same after the injury and surgery.  All that to say, that’s what almost every Bryce throw to the sidelines looks like to me.
    • And again, when watching him in college he had one distinct trait that I feel makes a franchise QB - on those plays when everything breaks down around him, he creates one on his own.  He doesn’t rely on or need everyone else.  That play last night on the final drive where he was getting sacked and threw it to Diggs before his knee hit the ground?  He does similar things all the time.  Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, etc., they all do it.  It’s what made Cam so special. but we picked a guy that’s the opposite of that.  He desperately needs someone else to make a play for him because he can’t.  Even that play yesterday on 4th down to Horn.  That wasn’t a great pass.  The defender was late and came down to make a play in the ball and Bryce threw it high and outside where Horn had to leave his feet and really use strong hands to catch it.  We relied on a 5’9” rookie playing in his first pro game to make THAT catch at THAT time bc of the early turnovers and a not great throw.  Crazy.
