Huddle Mock Draft: Round 3 (Pick 65)

Sorry for the late posting of the next poll for the 65th pick in the draft...I've been busy most of the day. Just to recap Cam Newton won the voting for the first pick in the draft. Next up is the 65th pick...I've selected 6 names that are generally expected to be available at that time. I've looked on several different websites and collaborated a ton of mocks to come up with these names so if there is a guy you don't see consider him already picked.

Here we go...and remember in this mock draft Cam Newton was the number one pick for the Panthers.

Ballard represents best value but doesn't really fit...Jenkins and McClain are decent options and Wright is a solid corner and the Panthers had interest in him. I selected Gilbert because I feel like Otah wont be ready and Gilbert could step in at right tackle and/or compete at right guard.

Hankerson might not be there but I saw that mock that was posted yesterday that had us taking him...I don't see it but if Smith is gone we will depth at WR.

if we have smitty, lafell, gettis, clowney, edwards, i dont see a need for another wr

I agree 100%...but like I said I've seen it in a few mocks and I really wanted to gauge what people thought. I personally believe that if we don't pick AJ Green we won't pick a WR the rest of the draft...same situation with Cam.

Rounds 3A/3B need to be DT/CB or vice versa. If Newton is the first pick, the 3rd rounders should be given to Rivera/McDermott for drafting players that fit Buddy Ryan scheme. There may be some suprises there with prospects that don't fit our traditional tampa 2 profile. Don't be suprised if one of these picks is some kind of tweener that fits the new D.

Based on the choices given and the need regardless of scheme, I picked Jenkins. One of these 3rd rounders really needs to be DL, new scheme or old.

That's what kind of sucks about picking Newton...it leaves you reaching for guys because of need. Don't get me wrong...Jenkins or McClain or Ballard all are good picks at 3 but if someone good falls it would suck to pass on them because of our desperate situation on the DL.

LOL what a homer of a website. Terrell McClain is definitely the better prospect. Jenkins comes off the field on 3rd downs, isn't a threat to pressure the QB, or has athletic ability to make plays in space. He's even gotten some series's off during games because he's tired.

I know it's from 2 years ago, but Jenkins gets put on his ass too much for a DT.

Todd McShay says Mcclain will go late 2nd

    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
    • I said this ALL last season and will say it again this year. Our record means diddly squat this year, I don't care if we have 0 wins or 17 wins, I only care about one thing and one thing only. Bryce proves without a shadow of a doubt that he IS or ISN'T our long term solution at QB. It's the only thing that matters for the same reason it sucks that this is the same thing as last year.  This needs to be determined, and if they can't determine it, then it's still telling the team the answer, just not the one they want to hear. As right now we're in the ultimate QB purgatory, a position that dooms franchises for years.  Just look at a team like the Cardinals, who extended a better QB and it still screwed them over and haven't had a contending team in a long time. People get too caught up on wins and losses when evaluating players, particularly QBs.  When people look at the final record and use that as a reason to want to extend a QB or not is just a fools errand.  If we had lost 2-3 more games last year because we didn't make a last second FG, I genuinely wonder if we would have just moved on from Bryce this offseason (like we should have been doing anyways IMHO).
