Rebuilding: A 2-year process

Addressing the QB situation can not be delayed for a year. There are several different ways to address it in addition to the draft but a decission has to be made now not later.

Simply put, you don't pass up drafting the QB of your choice at the #1 pick just to hope that you can get someone next year when you have no idea what your position will be.

Maybe not, but you do if you don't believe that he's truly a franchise QB and there are better players at other need spots.

To the OP, your idea is reasonable. With the draft upon us, the CBA not settled and the possibility of no OTAs and offseason work, I could see the Panthers wait on a QB. Hurney usually surprises; I never saw the Beason pick happening. Another homerun like that would be fantastic.

Thomas Davis was a bit of a surprise as well, as was Stewart. Good point.

My powers of inference are pretty kick-ass.

You're inferring that we'd be drafting high.

You're inferring that we'd be better off biting the bullet and gunning for a franchise guy next year.

Your post was a dolled up "I WANT LUUUUUCK".

Where in my post do you see any comments that suggest Luck or drafting high next season? Not drafting Newton is the best way to assure we won't draft high. If the crop of QBs is better next year and it is going to take a year to develop a red-flagged project, how does taking the red-flagged project make sense? Actually, Landry Jones would be better than Newton in 2012. If we can trade veterans next season and still need a QB, then we can get into position to draft one. Think outside the box. However, oversimplification of others' comments is a coping mechanism for those who fail to comprehend the scope of an idea.

People love to make bold ass predictions how are you so sure that Barkley, Luck will pan out early on verses Cam, Gabbert, or Mallet? that's your opinion they'll be more prepared.

The Golden Calf of Bristol and Clausen should have showed you that no one knows fans, scouts nor the media who will be productive at the Pro level.

Then why are you so sure about Cam? Where was a "bold ass prediction?" You huggers see what you want to see. The "prediciton" was a common-sense approach to the process considering the lockout could impede QB development. Is that clear?

I want to make sure you understand my point. I'm not saying you have to draft a QB this year. What I'm saying is that you have to address the situation and you don't address it by delaying it a year. Hurney could decide to stay with Clausen/Moore/Pike, or he could decide that he is going to make a power move to get Peyton Manning or he could decide to trade for Palmer or Kolb or whoever, or he could trade back to draft Ponder or Dalton or he could draft Newton or Gabbert.

Contrary to popular belief there are more than one option to addressing the situation at QB, this year. Some options are short term and some or long term. Some are a combination. Some fan hate more than others. Basicly what I'm saying is that QB is too big of a position to say we have cut all of these aging players, replaced the entire coaching staff, formed a plan to rebuild this team BUT we are going to wait a year before we make a decision and direction on QB.

Even if they end up having to address QB again in 2012, that can't be the plan now.
