Final Prediction for the number #1 overall pick

It's funny when you really think about it...Darin Gantt predicted the othe day that their is no chance the Panthers select Gabbert number one overall. Wouldn't it be hilarious if they actually did? Think about it...it's well established that Gabbert has a high football IQ, he has an above average arm and more importantly in the NFL he is accurate. He is mobile...he has protypical size...the only thing that really bothers people are he stats from the spread. Maybe we should worry...but I watched him play Oklahoma and he was exceptional. Then you look at Cam...he is a project, he is going to have to learn a lot about the passing game..."36" will never be a play. He seems like a good kid but he already acts like a superstar...he talks about Cammy Cam Juice and other comments that don't seem well thought out. He does have superior athletiscm...but something Hurney said the other day makes me stop and think...he mentioned something about the first pick being someone who represented how they want to win football games. Maybe that means in the trenches but maybe it means have an exceptional QB behind center.

When looking at the two is it really even a question? One final thought...Rivera hyped up Phillip Rivers quite a bit coming in...which QB reminds you of Rivers in terms of playing style? I think Rivera wants a guy like Gabbert...it's also odd that little to no word has come out about Gabbert...then again everything centers around Cam these days.

This seems to be the common theme with the Panthers top draft picks. I am almost positive that we will not take Cam Newton at this point. I think if we were going to take a QB, they would have come to the conclusion by now. Both top QBs have not done enough to 'sell' Hurney.

I had a dream a couple of nights ago we took gabbert. We could probably trade down and still be able to take him. I really dont know though. The word is out that the Bengals and the Cardinals have a lot of interest in him. I just dont know if he will fit that offensive scheme we are trying to do.

I also think Ryan Mallett kind of reminds Rivera of Phillip Rivers.

For some reason I like Mallett the best of the QB's, I just think he has some growing up to do. He will be great if he takes some advice from John Daly.

Right now I think the Panthers are going to draft who least of us expect, a who very few of us fans want.... Gabbert.

i use to think that was the case but i don't buy into it anymore. i also don't think there is a chance we go green. why use the #1 pick on a WR when we do still have smith but already have 2 young guys in lafell and gettis.

therefore, it will most likely be dareus or the wildcard peterson. there is the possibility it could be newton but i just don't feel they would use the #1 on someone who can't produce next year or possibly till his 3rd season. there is just no way newton with his limited experience dropping back and reading coverages can come in and run a 900 page air coryell playbook in his first or even second season. same applies to gabbert which is why i no longer feel we'll go with him either.

there just isn't any qb worthy of the #1 this year so i can't see us reaching for one. we're almost forced to play it safe with dareus. if we had a 2nd rounder, we could jump on ponder or one of the other QB's but there won't be any QB's of worth in the 3rd so I imagine we'll hit FA hard when it finally opens up and try next year to draft a better QB than is available at the top of the draft this year.

Well, Hurney was willing to give up a 2nd rounder to get Edwards and he's an even bigger project..If they feel one of them can be their franchise QB they won't hesitate..it's not up to us to decide unless one of us is secretly Hurney...

I really like the guy i feel he can be a top 10 Quarterback someday. But he has so many question marks and concerns. Its crazy.!

Gabbert wouldn't make it pass the Bills. Our GM was asked a question about the media hyping up Gabbert and raising his draft stock even though his college stats were average. Our GM, Buddy Nix said, well our Director of College scouting was at Gabberts first 5 games... "so he's always been high with us".

There's also been rumors that Dareus and Gabbert are at the top of the Bills board.

If Gabbert is there at #3... the Bills will run to the podium.

Like someone previously said Mallet will be the best QB in the draft, there really isn't a doubt in my mind. His ability is insane, and if he wasn't a tard he would be the first overall pick.

If we have the first pick I think it will be Dareus with an outside shot at Peterson or Green.

Well there could be some truth to this. but they will pass up on a good pass rusher who they need on there 34 defense. I mean Von Miller will be able to get after those guys in there division like Brady and sanchez. The best way to beat a quarterback is out score him and put pressure and there is no doubt in my mind Miller would put pressure. Im talking about a game changer.

I've said for a while that it's between Newton, Gabbert and Dareus. I wish Gabbert got more talk, but the fact that they didn't even show up to their pro day may be indicative of something. I think it's going to be Newton.

I still believe that we should try as hard as possible to trade down a couple of spots so we can pick up a second round pick in this years draft and a 1st next year. That enables us to still get a quality player for our defensive line in the first round and go after a player such as Dalton, Ponder or Kaepernick in the second round.

Potentially we could be attempting to go with Clausen for the 2011 season and just reinforce the pieces around the QB and on the defensive side of the ball this year thus not selecting a QB in the 2nd round. Also with regards to the difficulty of our schedule this year. It could very well be the case that we will end up with a top 5 pick in 2012 where Luck will be in play (He must not get away that easily) and with an additional 1 round pick from the trade that I anticipate. Would be gold.
