Invest in 2012

Recommended Posts

With the current NFL lockout and players and coaches not being able to communicate until who knows when, any draft picks selected this year are going to be playing a serious game of catch up.

Our entire time is going to be playing catch-up. Trying to learn an entirely new offense and defense in as short as a few weeks.

Would it make sense to call this season what it is. Lets face it, with this scenario playing out we are hardly going to be in playoff contention.

Please don't think I hate our team, I am just a sad realist.

With all that said, I hope we are able to trade away some of this years draft picks and stock up for next year. Everyone wonders why New England has a good young group of players year after year, they invest in the next draft every year. Hell, this year they have multiple picks in the first 2 rounds.

Any rookies selected this year are not going to impact our team very much, is it a good year to try and get a head start on 2012's draft?

One of the reasons New England can afford the luxury of stock piling picks every year is bc they have a top 2 QB in the league, maybe top 1 .

Well, ya got me there. but wouldnt it be nice to trade our #1 pick this year for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd next year. and woulnd't it be great to win the lottery, or just pick up Peyton Manning...... Man, this draft needs to get here fast, I just need some kinda football and arena league doesn't cut it!

Not a bad idea but I (and most fans) would lose respect for a team that intentionally lost. That just doesn't rub me the right way. And for what....Andrew Luck - give me a break. That guy could be a bust like anyone else. I hope his stock drops like Jake Locker and he ends up playing for the Bengals or Lions. That will teach him...

I agree.

New coach. New system. Potentially new QB? And best forecast to a CBA being finished is around June? I'm sorry, but that's just insanity to think that drafting Cam/Gabbert/whoever QB is going to put together a playoff team for 2011-2012.

Draft as if there is going to be no season. Trade-down and go defense/other skill positions (WR).

Let's just say we DO draft Cam and we have a season and he absolutely sucks. The entire 2011 offseason will be blamed. Then we'd have to wait another season to truly find out. Let's say by chance it goes bad. We could potentially be setting ourselves up for 3 years out of 4 where our first pick was a QB, AND we choose to skip out on Luck (if we'd even be in a position to do so) on next year BECAUSE we'd blame the offseason for not giving Cam the best chance to succeed.

LOL...gotta love it.

    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
